ugly 70s jazz bass inlays: how to remove

The block inlays in my jazz bass is getting on my nerves, hated the look. Does anyone knows how to remove them? Think of trying my luck here as there are more DIY guys in the guitar forum.

And once removed, what's going to go in their place?
The only viable method is to replace the fingerboard or to replace the neck altogether.

Gr3y can do this, but i'd think its costly due to work/material involved. Contact him for a better estimate.

the bass is beaten up rather badly i would not mind messing it up. Perhaps liquid aluminium or some funky lipstick colors.

Offer your neck or bass to AQUANAUT - he will pay you enuff to buy a new warwick bass - I kid you not.... he's into old org 70s jazz basses
