Tubescreamer or Blues Driver or OD-3?

Well hey guys. I'm looking to get a good overdrive unit for my 60th anniversary mex strat. its gonna be played through a vox ad30vt.

basically what i hope to find out is the difference between the various tubescreamer incarnations. theres like the ts7, ts808 and theres a ts9-something if im not wrong.

the blues driver has also caught my eye as a potential candidate. the od-3 too.

basically what im looking for is to get a bluesy and thick overdrive sound to mask the extreme twangy and jangly-ness of the strat pickups. preferabaly it shoudl be able to be used as a good boost for my crunchbox as well...

the ts is a better pedal for boosting. When used properly it can boost your mids a little while altering a little of your tone but yet makes it harmonically rich (easier to do tapping and accentuates pick attack).

The blues driver you mentioned has a diffeent form of gain, can be used to boost too but i feel it makes a better standalone pedal. it has a a grittier sound then the ts when used in boosting but well, some ppl like what Boss does. really wanna know? just go down to ebenex and try all of them 8)

cool. so do people usually use the tubescreamers as stand alone drive units for a more subtle sort of drive and crunch sound? and i still dont get the difference between the various tubescreamer models! :?:

You mentioned mask the janglyness of the strat pickups.

Easy choice for me. Blues Driver is a no go.

TS, SD-1 or the OD-3 will do what you want. The rest of it is just taste.

thats why... never ever ask for an 808 mod... hahaha.... 2 resistor and a "discontinued" opmp that cost less than a buck for what... 80 buckaroos? bwahahahaha....

But Edder sir, wouldn't it be the end product that matters more than how it was put together?

I mean, as long as, in the end - it sounds / feels good.

Then what does it matter if it were but just a simple mod?

Well it depends on how RICH the person is and how willing the person is to part with his money. ;) And we're talking about a PURE TS808 mod. 3 components mod.

I may have mentioned this before and I'll mention it again. Pure 3 component change TS9 - TS808 mods don't do much to the tone unless if you're a cork sniffer. A/B-ing the shit out of the 2 pedals to compare tiny little perceived nuances.

Its the rest of the components tweak that matter more. So to the noobs out there... don't go around asking for TS808 mods. Ask for MORE.

I highly recommend MI's Tubezone Overdrive. I've not found anything bad about this pedal yet... Except the chrome finish is not fingerprint friendly... Heh...

some other OD units worth considering:

Rocktron: Sonic Glory
