Tubescreamer or Blues Driver or OD-3?

The OD3 Its not your TS or SD type but with transistor boost into clipping into op-amp clipping so the dirt is much more dynamic compared to a typical boost drive !
And its pretty versatile and nice cascaded with ts type ... its actually a fake overdrive leaning more towards distortion. As unique as the BD2 circuit....one of a kind !

"The OD-3 is the ultimate BOSS OverDrive unit, capable of producing the widest range of smooth overdrive tones with a dynamic response which surpasses any other overdrive pedal on the market. Based on a dual-stage overdrive circuit, the OD-3 sounds bigger and fuller than previous pedals. Sustain for days with a tone to die for... that's the OD-3. Boss Area."

Yah, its gain knob is very useable from 8 oclock all the way to 5 oclock.. you get a slight boost, breakup and fattening effect at 8oclock, a nice mild crunch at 12 oclock and all the way up at 5oclock gives a really nice fat creamy overdrive. I use it alot more than my tonebone.

you should try the rocktron and guyatone sub mentioned!
both are good pedals at a good price..
you'll be surprised how smooth it can get..
plus.. i find that turning the Tone knob on the rocktron adds grit to your overdrive..
can somewhat get the bd-2 sound from it..

the bd-2 has a lower freq mid hump than the od-3. There's a eq boost in the lower mid-eq region of the bd-2 whereas the od-3 gives a mid-hump smack in the mid-eq region. Different voicing. That's because the bd-2 is more towards the 'blues' sound.. od-3 is more towards the traditional overdrive sound. They are both equally responsive but i preferred the od-3 more in my setup.

edit: with my new fralins it just got even yummier.. i couldn't put down my guitar last night noodling around with the OD-3 on..

yup... i got a keeley ts-808 .. its really one of the best tubescreamers ive owned... ived only tried the stock TS-9DX and ts-9 before... so not much of a comparison.

I just got another TS- the maxon analogman OD-9 silver mod... its also pretty nice.
i prefer the keeley though, the maxon one doesnt perform as well in low gain/ mild gain settings... maxon sounds best with gain knob past 12 O'clock.

i stack both for my lead sounds.... SHIOK man..really.

Sounds really interesting!

If it is as dynamic as the BD-2 then I gotta give one of them a try.

i own the OD-3. despite whatever promises/ highlight on offer, it's the final output that matters. as i use it as an amp booster primarily, it gives off this nasal honk which affects note definition if you embrace intense drive settings.

Amp matching is very important. Through my tweed deluxe the OD-3 sounds too nasal but it sounds perfect through my blackface amp which is mid-scooped. :)

The tubescreamer type of pedals are a great match for blackface/silverfaced fender amps. I don't think they are a good match for marshall or similar mid-accentuated amps.
