Trading Licks

Hmm, just decided to set up a thread so that users can exchange useful info on trading licks, guitar battles etc. Perhaps guitar heroes on the forum can give ur input here?

And no, I have not been watching too much Crossroads/G3 recently. just hoping you guys can share tips, give your takes on this topic. yeah. :D

i think trading licks is as close as 2 guitarists can get to a conversation....the most important part of trading licks is expression...there is just about no use if you go through a hundred notes and dont get your message across.......the best trade-offs i have seen have always been between blues players. :lol:

haha yeah...tru blues players always just jam and they focus more on completing the sentence" rather den just shredding mindlessly...

A good example is crossroads festival.....not the movie 8)

i love tt book.

archaic english.the true beauty of the english language.

expressiveness takes a lot of forms with guitar... choice of notes, how you play them, when you play them etc etc...

Personally, I'm a fan of choice of notes and when you play them... not too into the "how you play them" style. Not a fan of blues Blues if you know waht I mean...

me too..gotta respect how good blues players can fill up so much space with very few notes though. i believe it takes more talent to play three notes and make an impact than it does to sweep sixteenths at 240 bpm man..although i really can't do either :D

To me, expression is more on how you deliver that few notes on guitar like blues. So what if you have such good choices of notes, yes it may give you a different sound. But i feel at the end of the day, its that few notes and how you deliver it not so much on the choice of notes. Simplicity that gives feel of the song.

Yes i do like Jazz, as it is already a league on its own. Since the topic is strayed to talking about trading licks and blues, i just gave my 2 cents. Oh and playing with changes need need be used all the time to really show your expressiveness. :)

Blues = All about bending

Jazz = All about playing with the chord and key change, and application of arpeggios

So, in comparision to expressiveness and feel, they are both in different leagues even though these two genres can be used together at times.

blues = not just bending, but the way you play the notes in general (vibrato, glissando, etc)

jazz = sex <3 hahaha

manicactivitydeemedactiveyouparasite

its like sex innit; not about technique, but not without technique.

i'm trying to sound all pseudo-wisey. hehe.

but oh, how i love robben ford. and guthrie govan. the way those tongues interact...

what i know is Blues is more about expressiveness of a guitar...

so the bending really exudes the emotion...well that was wat i feel when i watch blues vid...so that means the bending plays a prominent role in blues...

im nt too sure. tt u gotta ask the pros ard here.....

Anyways...more input please?? like super guitar battles aka crossroads style... :D

i've always been trying to find the perfect blues progression... any tips?

jazz blues. go search. it's very hard to type out here, but it's basically a standard 12 bar blues with 2-5 and diminished subs.
