i prefer melodic but as people have already mentioned, it isn't here so i went with folk, viking metal. those are still quite melodic to me

speed metal as itself can be seen in the likes of bands like racer X, Cacophony, Megadeth's rust in peace is more speed metal than thrash. Judas Priest's painkiller was a flat out speed metal album

Black metal for me. Definitely. The likes of Emperor, 1349, Naglfar, Archgoat, Dimmu Borgir[Stormblast-era], Equilibrium, Bathory, Gorgoroth are enough to make me drool.

I like death metal a lot too. I personally like Kalmah, Norther, Arch Enemy, Bloodbath and At The Gates too. But still, black metal all the way!

the only two metal bands i listen to consistantly are In Flames and Dream Theater.

I don't care if In Flames is considered melodic death metal or not.
to me i think that is not of concern to them at all.
they're just in a world of their own, and we try to grasp onto a piece of their world be listening to their music.

Dream Theater is good.
but i find the latest album having a bit of mainstream influence already.

different people have different interests.
i love black metal.
if you know the meaning behind the lyrics.
you can see they're very very creative.
and they have a motive.
if it doesnt bother you , i think you dont have to criticise them .

I don't like people who listen to black metal because they think they are cool or radical enough. It takes more than radicalism and coolness to produce good music. :/

I'll agree a little. Whenever someone asks what music do I listen to, their expressions are always priceless.

"You mean the music where they go, '[all the weird disgusting noise they make]?'"

And then they will continue to talk about their own interests and start singing the latest hits. :/
