jimi hendrix to iron maiden to Marduk...

Marduk's Morgan Harkensen: the Strat is as black metal as any other guitars...

Odd thing that you mentioned about Morgan sub...the other day a friend of mine denounce his liking for strats and says that strats arent suite for metal sounding and we debated for quite sometime till i mentioned to him about Marduks' Morgan....i went further to say that perhaps he couldnt get a good sounding from his Fender was the fact that his gear "sucks".....i think i really hurt his feeling by saying that.:???: Anyhow...

Well anyway i have always considered myself as an Ibanez kinda player with just a volume that has filtering circuits modded to it...cos i hate meddling with tone knobs and such. But as time goes by i was craving for full sounding tone and "twang" at times....so i bought the RG550, though its a good guitar but that didnt satisfy me till i got my very own first Fender....and guess what, i'm getting 2 more Fender this year!;)

ok. this thread inspired me to finish my strat that Ive been building for a year+.

Its a mexi body with noiseless pus. rubbish pickguard and jack, bridge from god knows where, maybe jap not sure. And the final touch, just now, I stole the neck off my squire:) This is only temporary while I find the perfect maple neck. Last 3 hrs, I cant put it down, it goes out of tune, jack is not the best, etc etc, but the tones, the tones!

I have also done some "special wiring" so you dont need the switch, and I can have bridge+neck and all 3 pus yeah!

so here are some dodgy pics with a phone cam(I can take more), red fernandes strat, jap bullet strat, and mongrel strat.

hmm not sure if the pics work, please let me know if they dont.

Morgan Harkensen appeared in a little column in Guitar World one time saying how good the Strat is for aggressive music in terms of playability & tone. we note he utilizes a humbucker in the bridge position. that 70s type Fender gets lesser play time these days due to wear, Harkensen is more often seen with a BC Rich Beast/ Ibanez 7string.

Harkensen makes me believe i can do likewise with my Tele, wonder what your friend would say about this... (apologies for having a Tele pic in a Strat thread)

subversion: pardon me for asking, i dont know much about black metal players, but do they choose their gear because that's all they have and cant afford other stuff or do they really use it because they like it? btw is it harkensen or Håkansson? once again i apologise if my post is offensive to anyone.

back in the 80s it was: have guitar, will black metal (aka: have BC Rich, will black metal), because good gear was hard to come by for these people as endorsement was the last thing that could happen- manufacturers don't look forward to sign players who have a limited following/ fan base. but big players in the guitar domain got wiser today + good gear are more affordable/ readily available. this is why we see Immortal endorsing LTD, Satyricon/ Emperor are with Ibanez & the last time I talked to Mayhem's Blasphemer, he has partial endorsements with Ibanez.

these commercial developments aside, it's really up to the player what he/she chooses to embrace. it's not about the brand name, it's what that particular instrument have in store for you...

there are 2 (no idea which one's primary): Distortion/ JB

Whoa...you did your homework sub.Ave brethren...

Btw Abbath used to play BC Rich "exclusively" and Demonaz sporting Ibanez "V" in their early days.I remembered reading it in "Battles In The North" album cover digipak....

that's right- Abbath was playing Ironbird bass before Demonaz retired his guitar duties. the latter's guitar was passed on to Abbath & Ibanez should have capitalized on that because that Ibanez V was a lawsuit model (note the Jackson-like ski slope inlay), not just any X-series make but as it turns out, LTD got them endorsed during their reunion time...

ok not to hijack too much of this Strat thread...
