The Stratocaster Appreciation thread

An early birthday & christmas present that i bought for myself. Eric Johnson Strat.

Well, I like the neck where it transits from a soft V at 1st fret to C at 12 fret. Pickups are of a funny combination. ’54 style model with oversized Alnico 3 magnets in the neck position, a ’63 style model with Alnico 3 magnets in the middle position (which is reverse-wound for hum cancellation in the two and four positions on the five-way pickup selector switch), and an Alnico 5 model in the bridge position which is slightly over-wound to provide hotter output.
 
The EJ is a production strat... with customshop features .. of sorts la... Its honestly a very nice playing and good sounding strat. A pickup upgrade would make it alil more versatile and squeeze out that last bit of potential from it. Many would beg to differ, but i felt the bridge pup was a tad bit nasal. the middle pickup is AWESOME! ..neck is warm and punchy...

The JM cypress mica was very nice too... the one i got happened to be very light and extremely resonant... now i question myself... why the hell did i sell both the above strats.... :(

i think my DIY relic got the mojo la...

Honestly? I'm not a big fan. I'm a Clapton devotee, but I'd prefer to get my own strat and mod it the way I like...

hEY wHITE, know what? I touched this baby too. Was brought into the SL secret vault at Sims Drive...

$58,000 is way way way too ex lah. Even for a limited edition. But the worn out feel of the thin nitro finish on the body is second to none and very well-made to emulate a 30 years guitar.
 
haha! i bought this guitar not because i like eric johnson. Its because i like the feel of the guitar.
 
haha cool. I finally bought a Fender myself. CIJ ST-57 white alder body one piece maple neck with texas specials pups. sorry cant post pics cos photobucket's being a bitch. will attempt to post as soon as photobucket stops screwing with me.

I love my new strat YEAH YEAH
 
Jus wondering, those who have Texas Special, are they very noisy? Mine is kinda noisy, thinking of shielding my strat to tame the noise which is gettin on my nerves
 
Yes, the Texas Special pups are quite noisy esp when amplified by overdrive. But you can't hear it when playing.

For most strat pups, removing the noise also removes the "x" factor in the tone.

Can use a volume pedal to shut off the noise when stop playing.

haha agreed. its not noisy la....other than 60 cycle hum but what do you expect? thats the real mojo in a fender strat!

My Strat

Here's two photo of my strat. It's a 70s Morris . The original owner had scrapped the "morris' logo. It looked quite bare so I decided to paste a 70s Fender logo( just two days ago)

The frets looked really abused when I got it months back...terrible wear. Had it re-fretted by KC , changed the bone nut and the pickups are Lace Holy Grails. Changed the pickguard to black and added some silver stars.
One of the most comfortable neck and the lacquer on both body and neck has aged nicely...30 odd years. There's some cigarette butt marks on the body.

Just wanted to ask about the versatility of the EJ strats! From what I read they're supposedly very good guitars for the price and are definitely worth the money. I'm thinking about giving one a shot. I've heard that they are great blues guitars, but how well do they fair at more modern rock and rock and roll stuff?
 
hi guys, can i know wats the difference between tex-mex (stock pups on the 60th annv standard strat MIM) and the texas special? they are different arent they?
