so personal preference then...
I myself found in the album what metallica is well known for...great song hooks...it was metal as ever...and ofcourse...as metallica always has....they incorporated the influence of the present time into their music......the production was the only thing i didnt enjoy....

dunno about purists but i was there in the moshpit for slayer mayhem megadeth just as i was in the moshpit of slipknot dream theater etc....its all metal to me

Any of you guys have the Black Wind album or heard their songs? It is a german metal band but they sing in Malay. LOL. Really.I hear it on HARD RADIO a couple of years back. Quite Helloweeny and Loudnessy.

Perhaps you need to change your mindset about this.
A thread created specifically for this would be good, as it avoid truckloads of anonymous 'metal' threads. You can start your own Slipknot thread if this doesn't please you...
It's either you come here to read and give a try at the recommendations given by other, or you stick to your own world, thinking that slipknot is metal... -_-

Check out Satariel. Starting from their 'Hydra' album. The vocals range is quite similar to Mikael Stanne, whom i rate as one of the best death metal vocalist... Though his clean vocals can be a pain when first heard in "Projector" (DT's 4th album) alot of times, you'll get used to it somehow... I did.

Doesn't mean a genre has the word 'metal' in it defines that they are a metal band. Don't you know these days there are tons of hybrid genres that destroys the whole genre of metal?
