The Best and Worst Bands of 2008

A band that people think is metal should listen to Black and Death Metal to have a taste about what metal really is.

Oh damn. Metallica isn't real metal. So is Maiden, Pantera and all. Or even Sabbath. LOL! ONLY OPETH OR NILE AND ALL ARE!

Very smart..

You left a bad impression the moment you pumped in band names like A7X and Disturbed... worse still, trying to think you know metal by naming a few others... Typical... Not surprised...

when i first read Infernox's comment (in your quote) i had the same idea as well. but when i read the whole post, it actually made sense.

in a way i guess he meant bands like a7x should listen to more "extreme" metal before thinking that they are metal and stuff.

Shrugs...
I'm not surprised by the number of supportive A7X fans there are in Singapore who just bgan listening to them when they became mainstream...
And think that, "Hey! You listen to metal? I listen too! A7X is probably the best metal band around... Heard of them?"
-_-

ehh that isnt the worst that i have heard from friends. i remember a friend asking me "hey what kinda music you listen to"

i told him "i listen to metal."

he went "oh is it? me too!"

so i asked him what bands he listen to then he went like "nickelback's latest album is pretty heavy dont you think."

then i just went "err." and end of conversation lol.

cant blame a7x though, for me, a7x was one of the bands that led me to look for "heavier" stuff. from then on there was no turning back. (ok maybe once in a while haha.)

Does my signature ring any bell? Just began listening.. Lol.
I'm just trying to say death metal isn't the only kind of metal around is it? So nu-metal stuff like Korn is also lousy piece of crap? I just don't get you.

no, korn is not lousy crap. lousy crap or not is subjective to listener.

but what makes most "metalheads" unhappy is that people tag nu-metal bands like linkin park and korn as "true metal".

personally, i 看开 already, so dont really bother as much as before xD

"True Metal". So at the end of the day what is true metal? Maybe I'm not metal head enough to know. Or even in the eyes of some I'm not. Call me ignorant or what but I like Slipknot Metallica A7X Pantera Bullet, because these are the kind of "metal" that is my cup of tea.

Lol maybe I should tell Chris Brown he's not hip-hop enough, gotta be like Eminem to be real hip-hop.

perhaps they should have termed it "pure metal" instead of "true metal" to sort of like prevent misunderstandings.

true metal refers to metal not tainted by genres not related to metal (ie rap, hiphop, turntables stuff, sometimes hardcore, the list goes on..). and its because these "new" genres with non-metal elements mixed into the music are presented to the mainstream audience as "metal", people often misunderstand bands like linkin park, nickelback and so on as "hardcore metal bands".

and this in a way pisses elitists/purists off cos that is not what metal essentially is.

anyway, i suppose you can read more about true metal on wiki or just google it. the originators of the term is Manowar lol.

the weird thing is how even among "metalheads" there can be conflict over which metal sub-genre is "true metal", with the death and black metal fans calling power metal "false metal", and vice versa.

oh well. elitism is a weird thing huh.

personally i just listen to whatever sounds good to me. the new slipknot album is pretty decent if not for the vocals, and coming from me i bet most of the elitists on metal forums that i am on are gonna condemn me just for that comment.

Metalhead can enjoy whatever you listen like LP, Slipknot, BFMV or A7X... But at least, they are able to differentiate.

I have my own guilty pleasures. I enjoy BFMV way before their release of 'The Poison', A7X's 'Waking The Fallen' is still a good album to me... but as far as i'm concerned, i wouldn't consider them 'pure metal' just like how optisailor rpehrased (thanks by the way).
If you say you love metal, wouldn't you bother reading more about it rather than making assumptions about the genre?

It's just a disgraceful thing when you meet someone who tells you he listens to metal and comes out with all those 'non-metal' bands...

the popular definition for metalcore is the fusion of heavy metal and hardcore.

if you listen to metal or metalcore enough, you will be able to differentiate between a metal band and a metalcore band, the difference is obvious. (even for like melodeath bands vs deathcore bands like as blood runs black).

then again, i do go back to listen to some metalcore once in a while, including a7x's waking the fallen and some KSE. pretty decent band, KSE, and waking the fallen a pretty decent album as well.

Why would anyone wanna show that they can differentiate genre?

From Metalcore to hardrock to classical... so what?
:P

Just listen. No point showing others that you can differentiate genres.
Pure metal or True Metal.... sigh....

:P

If you like the song , be it. If you hate/dislike the song, dont say, like 'its not pure METAL lah brother...' :(

Wana ask, do metal lovers have these mindset?

FYI, I listen to metal too :) But I don't dress like one. hehe..

Happy new year!

But sometimes, it is hard, not to differentiate lor... especially when you listen to a certain genre and someone said a loser band is from that genre....

biopromax:

its not about wanting to show off the ability to differentiate from genre to genre. for me, i dont bother showing off the ability to differentiate metal genres, i just listen to whatever feels/sounds right to me at the moment in time. the ability to differentiate genre to genre (to me) is so that when people ask me what a certain band sounds like i can tell them what genre it is and what similar bands there are.

btw, i dont dress like a metalhead either. i look just like any other guy on the streets. people mistake me for someone who listens to mainstream radio music cos i dress really normal lol.

OH! sorry if i offended you bro.
But Im curious, when comes to ....
genre thing, it's always been metal to metal thing.
That if you guys realised ah.

Genre like indie , pop , punk , etc,very seldom. hmm... :)
