The Bassist's Effects Line Up

well, i'm a user of the EBS and i think it's pretty cool. what attracted me to it was the effects loop. the benefits of the loop are that whislt recording, all my distortion and fx are going through the loop then i can just tap out from the pre-amp's XLR out (much like the bass bone i reckon). in my opinion, routing your fx this way keeps your tone a little more congruent as the pre-amp has more control over your overall tone as compared to running the FX in series with the pre-amp at the start of the chain.

i've also tried the Sansamp.. it's got it's own character which some really dig while some would say colours your tone a lot.

just got the email from hung bros.. they quoted me 435 for the bassbone @_@

OUCH! okay. i think i bought it for $380 if not less.. i think $340, but that was a good 3/4 years ago? (my how time flies)

but i'll say it again. OUCH.

I've used both the Sansamp Bassdriver DI and the Aguilar DB 924. Both are fantastic units. Which one to use depends on your preferred application for your preamp. The BDI has an XLR output while the Aggie doesn't (but that looks to change with the upcoming Tone Hammer ;)). The Aggie runs on two 9V batteries (no DC input, which bothers me a little bit) while for 18V operation and higher headroom while the BDI runs on 9V, DC or even phantom power from the mixer (lower power, more flexible). I find that of the two the BDI colours the sound of your bass more, which gives it some really wide tone shaping options, but not all are useful. The Aggie also has less knobs and less parameters to control (it doesn't even have a bypass switch), but as far as taking the natural sound of the bass and giving you MORE of it, that's the way to go.

Well, its always the case, feel like getting some effects but when u got it, it just don't suits ur playing.. So at the end sell it. G.A.S-ing is evil.

the arion octave is supposed to be a clone of the boss oc2. the tracking is crap, and it doesn't sustain long enough. but i love the fake octave down sound.

for the phaser, the mxr90 is as a basic phaser as u can get. i used to have the ehx small stone, but it took up too much space on my pedalboard. so this is the other alternative.

so the phase90 and the small stone are comparable in terms of tone? i wouldn't mind the small stone if not for the bitchy size and the need for a 3.5mm adaptor

actually i didn't manage to do a A/B on both, but i prefer mxr just because of the size.

i'm thinking of asking my friend to mod the mxr with an exp pedal out. cos he says he can do it.
