The Art Of Gear Stomping (TAGS)

that is a very good idea. Then some guys who dun play guitar may get attracted by girls, go in, maybe got bands to perform, then get into local musicians. Good platform to showcase local musicians who only do recording.

Pardon my ignorance..so these local 'artistes' will be holding a 'clinic' to teach us how to use these effects? What's the point? I thought its a showcase of new products etc?

Daniel, you're right, as quoted:
"They'll show how they incorporate the use of effects as part of their songs."

They're supposed to be the experts, showing the audience how to use effects to sound like their "hit singles"

i think it is a good opportunity for people to get together and talk about guitar stuff. maybe stillwater or vaisms have some suggestions for the organisers on how to make the event better?

Ok..its a cool idea to gather musicians together talk abt gear etc..but my first impression was that its like a product launch or something like that..if it is so, then I think the product dealers themselves could do a demo on their new products since they should know their products better than anyone else, rather than getting 'artistes' to do it..UNLESS they are endorsees hah!

I think it will be cool if musicians get to try out each other's gear n amps if possible in future..more like a Soft-Fest like JEMFest rather than an artiste 'clinic'. Don't think many of us need to be erm taught how to use a delay or chorus pedal heh

Forgive me if I offended anyone, just my 2 cents worth.

it's not about teaching people how to use effects.. man, how difficult is it to use effects? turn knobs, step on step off..

it's more about a show and tell, what effects they use, the chain that they run through.. how they achieve certain sounds and all.. i can certainly say that there's too much to learn about effects.. tHrust me..

Hello mrmisses,

show n tell, i think that's really cool.
but just wondering.... why them? chosen on what basis?
achievements, level of musicianship, popularity, years of experience or just purely out of contact (tink...ah ha!)...?

achieve certain sounds? Hmm... Don't think many ppl would be interested in achieving their sound, considering how many ppl actually know their sound, or would be interested.

conversely, if this session is conducted by veteran guitarists who r well-known to imitate certain signature tones (ie i used to hear the old shaggies were really well-known to sound like Queen), people who can really imitate lengends like The Edge's tone etc..., that would definitely attract many more...

Ahhh..John..think you hit the nail, that's exactly what I'm trying to get through..don't think that many of us are interested in achieving their tones and sounds..erm heck, due to my ignorance in the local scene, I don't even know who some of these 'artistes' are! haha!

I think can consider even getting veteran pub players or the locally acclaimed sessionists, top 40s cover bands etc..well, at least they are the pros! And I'm sure their set list also requires them to sound close to the originals..

Aiah, I didn't know this post was here. Missed out on so much. So here i am catching up abit at teh very last minute.

This event was created because...simply put it. We love pedals!!!!!

I think the main reason for this clinc sessions is to open more doors to local musicians instead of always looking overseas. It all comes down to this, more support for local music as an industry NOT a scene. The scene will always be there. It's the industry that we should help to grow. Basically we're all here because we wanna see local music grow in some way or another otherwise we won't be in this forum in the first place.

The musicians selected for this round of TAGS are choosen because of

why them? chosen on what basis?
achievements, level of musicianship, popularity, years of experience or just purely out of contact (tink...ah ha!)...?

well...all of the above. They seem like a nice mix of genres anyway. This time we all still virgin in doing something like this. Next time abit more experience, we'll do a little more. Maybe get Aphelion or Axed Ministers guys to come down and show us how the hell do they play so fast!!!!

The clinics are not to show you how to use effects, Just like clinics from Gary Hoey, Billy Sheenan or Robben Ford isn't to show you how to play guitars or bass, it's...well, you know what clinics are for. I'm not gonna just say clinics are for musicians to share their experience or show their techniques etc. It whatever the musicians wanna share with the audience at that time. I've attended a few clinics before and even though the whole clinic session was 100% useful, I learned a little tips and tricks from here and there that the musicians drop off once in awhile. I think those are teh stuff worth watching out for.

Anyway, my 2 cents worth. Thanks for all your comments everyone of you. Will go geddit better next time.

Plus! Here's the latest new, updated and no more changes clinic timings.
