The All-New Ibanez Appreciation Thread

i cant afford the synyster custom.. it costs 2.4k to bring it in from guitar 77. so the next closest thing would be ibanez i guess.i'm now considering the jem jr or pgm3.where can i buy sd invaders and is there any shop which specializes in changing pickups?sorry for being nub.

i doubt schecter uses basswood like ibanez guitars , so it aint the closest guitar which u can afford to ''feel'' like the one u are lookin for.

Davis does sell Seymour Duncan pickups .

the jem jr and pgm3 are definitely not the closest you can get to the synyster custom. firstly, they both have basswood bodies whereas the synyster custom has a mahogany body. also, they're both signature models which almost always equals an upcharge. an RG will suit your needs as well if not better for the money, considering you're going to change the pickups anyway. a sabre with a mahogany body will get you much closer to the synyster than either the jem jr or the pgm3.

whats the difference between mahogany and basswodd?does it affect the sound?and what ibanez models uses mahogany?and how much does davis sell the pups for?and does davis change pups?

Basswood is a slightly cheaper wood, usually used in lower-end guitars, except that some high-end Ibanez guitars use basswood. Of course it is of the higher-grade variety. Some artists actually request basswood, like John Petrucci and Ritchie Sambora.

Tone-wise, HarrisonYeo nailed it. Basswood is a less bassier wood, but it is also very neutral sounding, so using different pickups on a basswood guitar might have a more obvious change in tone than on a mahogany guitar.

is the Ibanez Paul Gilbert PGM3 as good as the PGM300? cause i can't afford the 2.4k one. i only can afford the 900 bucks one. if it isn't, is it a good guitar?

Do take note that the Paul Gilbert models come only with a volume control. You will have no tonal control for this guitar.

davis changes pickups. the invader will set you back 125 per pickup if i'm not wrong. the sound is very different. sabres, the iceman and the xiphos models use mahogany. also i highly recommend you do NOT put invaders in both your bridge and neck, unless all you plan to play is stuff by a7x, or you really know what you're doing. you will probably regret doing it a few months after blowing 300 on a pickup swap.

What the hell you put guitar string packs under the bridge? wana block it ah? Take 3 $1 coins,
1 20c & 1 10c coins, tape them & put under the bridge block...

Floyd and not strung up means the springs will pull the bridge into the body, damaging the wood. Isn't it?

Sorry man... but this isn't true.

Basswood and maple is exactly what EVH went for. John Suhr says that Basswood and Maple combo are the "holy grail" of tonewoods. Basswood today suffers the same stigma as poplar. It's not exactly cheaper. Just more accessible, and easier to work with.

There's not really a distinction between high end wood and low end wood. Just different tones. Depends on what you want.

Cheap guitars use agathis and plywood.

you could try the rg321 mahogany. its a cheaper alternative and also hassle-free if you dont use the whammy much.

i want a guitar with floyd rose or edge trem system and not so expensive at the same time. i dont mind swapping pups. but if i have a basswood bodied guitar and i change the pups to SD invaders, the sound will be different from a7x's right?and right now i only like the RG series..tmr maybe i will go down to penin and check out schecters. are schecters made out of mahogany?sorry for getting a little bit off topic

You want an A7X sound? You not only need a guitar but their effects, amps and most importantly, skills. No use getting gears sounding close to what they have but cant play as well as them. Agree?

if you wanna get the a7x sound, the thing that'll get you closest to it is a bogner uberschall. if u use a HSS squier with an uberschall it'll get you closer to the sound than a syn custom through a roland cube.

i'm working hard towards that alr haha. any idea where to get a bogner uberschall?and it costs a bomb right? haha. i think i will look around at guitar 77 for cheaper schecter guitars.whats the difference between a original floyd rose and a licensed floyd rose and a licensed floyd rose locking tremolo?

yes the bogner uberschall will set you back around 4000 dollars if i'm not wrong >_< the differences are usually in its tuning stability

the original being the most stable when tuning? and which schecter guitar is better for beginners/intermediate players? cause my brother just started and wants one guitar badly >.< sorry people off topic i love ibanez too haha

i just checked the schecter website. syn uses Duncan Designed HB-108 Detonators. does it have any difference with the SD invaders?

Dude, this thread is about Ibanez guitars. If you want info about other guitars, start your own thread.
