That used look

how do you get that used look on your guitar??

if anyone seen John Frusciante's strat...yeah i'm talking about that look...how to achieve it?

i know one is to play it for a very very long time and go thru rough stuff with it...

but is there any other ways?

any other way would be trying to fake it, period.

Gets you close, but perhaps it doesn't infuse in the player's approach and touch to the instrument? That's my take on it.

Anyway, what everyone starts with are those soaking pickguards and covers in coffee/water with cigs, using tools to deface, cig marks on headstock.......do a search on most guitar forums and it'll get you there :)

drag it with motor cycle. after a while, it will give your guitar that used look.. well... i mean, used to be dragged look

well i'll give you a better explaination.

worn out look can be done with either using sand paper or hammering.
i'm not kidding...

if you look at SRV's no.1, it is due to many times of dropping it on the floor and hitting it here n there during his acts or practices.to simulate that you can actually uses hammer and a sharp screwdriver to chip off some of the parts you think that will give that classic worn off look. after its chipped off you'll see the bottom primer colour.. and of coz the chipped off part wun feel smooth n nice to touch.. infact it will even allows more parts to be easily "peel" off. Paints works in that matter.. onces there is an open wound,it'll spread if not taken care of.. so the next part comes with sanding! use grits like 600-1000 to achieve your desired smoothness.Warning, dont be a Gundu and sand off all other polished sides! Unless you are aiming for a diy matt finish. Well Fender did reproduced SRV No.1 before but their method isnt like what i've mentioned, they use superb painting skills to dublicate the exact worn off parts and colour. The method i juz said wun allow you to do so..

Next! if you are looking for the WGB sg worn out kind, that can be achieved with a patience sanding down the paint until the bottom primer colour is shown. or again, you can do wad esp did, a fake painted worn off.

Hmz how about malmsteen? yeah sure you love those coffee added colours! some people will tell you to soak your plastic parts in coffee and some will tell you soak in some chemical... so how abt the body? the body will still look new! here's my method.simply bring your axe under the afternoon sun!the UV will do the job! it'll looks great but the result wun be that fast of coz.. infrare red lamp willl not help in this case!

Any other questions?

Hope this helps.

Above methods are to be done by professionals and if you failed while trying,it just proves that you are not a professional!

that no.1 means ur best and most favourite guitar in most case. But his is kinda official all ppl calls it the srv no1 mah.. not too sure though.. leaving it under the sun doesnt requires you to bring out of ur house into the grasspatch!

Qns: how does your mum dry her laundry?

like some would say, think out of the box!

you are almost there :D

Anyways ...try not to do the artificial worn out look ...it looks fake.

modern guitars are painted using relatively good quality polyurethane.

these stuff don't yellow so easily.

To make a PALE PALE maple neck yerrow... use KIWI. rub rub and wipe wipe. Instant weentage neck.

hahaha i just asked outta curiosity to know how they achieve those colors...so apparently they are natural...

oh well...

my perfectly good looking strat was left in the open on stage after sets etc in clubs etc...for about 5 years plus - it looked twnty years old after that -

If you dont play regularly - then get someone to "relic" it for you....

Rory Gallagher's Strat

And here's how he get that aged look:

Rory's Stratocaster

.Rory was always associated with his well-worn sunburst 1961 Stratocaster, which his brother Donal has officially retired. It was reputedly the first in Ireland, ordered by a showband member who changed his mind about the colour. Rory bought it for just shy of £100 at Crowley's Music Store on Cork's McCurtain Street. The guitar was never intentionally modified, but years of touring and stage use have instilled it with many idiosyncrasies. The most notable effect that years of touring have had is the almost complete removal of the guitar's sunburst finish, partly through being left out in the rain in a ditch for days after being stolen. Some of the damage has also been attributed to Rory's acidic sweat. Other quirks include a 'hump' in the scratch plate which moves the neck pickup closer to the neck on the bass side and a replacement of all of the pickups, though this replacement was due to damage rather than a perception of a tonal inadequacy. Reproductions of the guitar have recently been sold by Fender, though with smaller frets and lower action than the original.
