Hey guys, im stupid so i wanna know.. I'm playing stuffs like dream theatre and metal.. so i wanna get a new stomp box that gives that tube amp sound.. is there? that's y im asking.. I know that i should get an all tube amp but I want a pedal so that i can take it to jamming sessions. The tubezone, does it contain tubes inside? sorry for being a noob..

You need a high-gain distortion pedal, most of them are designed to create a tube tone, so you don't need to have tubes inside. (Save you the hassle of changing tubes, etc)

I'd highly recommend the Beta Aivin HM-200 (STANDARD VALUE). Its $85 and its amazingly powerful for its price. (Same price as a Boss DS-1 but way more intense distortion)

There are other similar pedals of course, if you're willing to pay a bit more:
- Boss MT-2 Metalzone
- Digitech Death Metal
- Digitech Metal Master
- Rocktron Rampage
- Rocktron Metal Planet
- Landmine co. Landmine distortion
- Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff with top boost

And many more. I'd advise you to try a number of these monsters, and decide which one gives you the tone you desire. The Boss MT-2 is quite similar tonewise to the Beta Aivin HM-200, look for my HM-200 review in the reviews section, I've got a video there too.

Hope this helps!

For tube-like convincing tones, I can't think of high gain pedals, but the Emma ReezaFRATzitz come into mind..
Maybe a G2D Morpheus or a Guyatone Metal Monster for metal? Maybe an MI Audio Tubezone as well..
I have one pedal in my arsenal which I feel "nails" the tube tone.. I'm using a Deucetone Rat (set to Clean Rat) to emulate the tube break-up sound.. Not too smooth, not too harsh; perfect.....

And to answer your question, no the Tubezone doesn't contain any tubes.. But hell, it doesn't need a tube.. Some say the tube in a pedals make no diff, some say it does, but hell, if it sounds good get it!!!

heh, whats a tube tone?

at clean, crunch, over driven or distorted?

Whats are the characteristic of tube tone?

How does tube tone different from not tube tone?

Does tube tone has a definitive sound?

Actually, tube tone or not shouldn't matter. If it turns out a pedal that does not claim to have tube tone sounds better to your ears compared to one that claims to have tube tone, you'll be happier with it, no?

Best to let your ears decide.

thanx guys.. i love it when u guys recommend.. now i'm gonna hear each pedal one by one and choose.. thanx a lot guys...

Heh, good questions.

TS, these are the things you have to research and find out first before embarking on a some tube gears. So go out there and compare a tube unit with a non tube unit and compare. Don't just buy stuff just cos it's tube. Let your ears decide your tone.

To add on to Eugene's recommendation of the HM-200, there is also the 100 series, also available at Standard Value:

HM-100

hey guys.. one lats question... Where can i get the guyatone metal monster and the metal muff top .. How much do they cost? And also, the tubezone.. where is it sold? i wanna try..

seem like different people always have different idea of tube tone and when i ask, seldom can find answers bout whats the tube tone to them and in the end always ended up on using your ear to decide instead

sometime talk so much bout about tube tone and can recommend things, but in the end goes back to using hearing, hahaha, confusing and sometime contradicting lah, imho

I know...

I think half the time the answers will come out vague and regularly punctuated with, "It's hard to describe..."

TS, IMO whatever sounds good, sounds good la, ESPECIALLY if you are still new to pedal business. Don't need to be swayed by the tube talk yet unless you been playing for a while and starting out on a tone quest.

As for your question on where to test, got heaps of places to go, but Ebenex would be a good choice to start since they have plenty of pedals there. Have a nice chat with them, and they can probably tell you where the other effects shop are. ;)

tube tone

in my own world description...of the TUBE TONE...

"the tone that will aroused you, stir up your loins and inner self..the 1 tone that of such animalistic savagery will plunder and plough thru whatever being you have left and will maketh you begging and craving for more and more..."

that is the TUBE TONE

wah bro whitestrat...

metal zone is the tube tone..hehehe..that's deep lah bro..really deep..
will take me awhile to manifest it..i second it..

highly recommend an mi audio tubezone if u can find one. not my cup of tea but the thing can do what u want it to like dt and stuff. maybe just have something in front to push it to even further states of mayhem.

heh, joke aside. Seriously, how can we be talking about tube tone when we cant even describe it in an easy way with some technical truth where it make sense instead of usnig mojo term, zen like description or worst, no description at all, just tube tone

For a start, i also dont know what is tube tone either. Both my tube amps became decorations in room wasting space while my bass amp seen more action from geetar for the last 2 years.
