Got my Splawn Quickrod amp last saturday. Got some inquiries about it via PM here and on facebook. So i'd thought i do a quick review here for everyone whos interested in it.
In a plexihead shell with purple tolex. Its my dream to own one that looks like that ever since i saw those bogner modded marshalls in a plexi head shell with the same colour scheme.
.Amp has two channels. Clean and Distorted. Independant master volumes, EQ and Drive. Comes with a 3 button footswitch. No reverb.
.4 el34s, 4 12AX7s
.3 gain types on the distortion channel. Plexi, modded plexi, modded jcm800. ( to my ears they sounded that way )
.Solo boost function ( kinda works as an additional master volume for you to raise your volume during solos and adds some body and bass ).
.Series efx loop with a true bypass switch to turn it off. Half power switch down to 50 watts.
.Fantastic master volume. The clean up is very very good even at very low volume levels. Despite having two channels, i find myself staying on the gain channel all the time and turning the volume knob down for lower gain and cleans. Amp is in between medium to high gain modded marshall style tones. This is your amp if your after those Nuno Bettencourt, EVH, Paul Gilbert and Geroge Lynch tones.
. Its hard to get a bad tone out of this thing. It doesn't have the fizz and too much flub in the bass most marshalls got. The sustain and note clarity is excellent no matter how much or how less distortion your using. Like a clean gain kinda thing when u hear EVH play.
.Loudest fu-cking amp i ever played. I thought the guys at the splawn forums were joking when they said volume 9 and 10 o'clock was gig volumes. They were right. Thank god it sounds great at low volumes as well. I have played the amp with the volume pushed to 6 o clock. EQ starts to balance out. Amp is gonna see some action very soon during recording using a thd 2 x 12 cabinet and a marshall 4 x 12 greenbacks cab. More clips then.

Quick demo video of the amp when i got it. Pardon the bass. The amp was played pretty loud and the camera mic is picking up all the boom and bass from my concrete walls. All amp distortion on the hot rodded jcm800 mode. Very reactive to the tones of the different pickup positions, use of pick and fingers.
Thanks for reading.
