Got my Splawn Quickrod amp last saturday. Got some inquiries about it via PM here and on facebook. So i'd thought i do a quick review here for everyone whos interested in it.

In a plexihead shell with purple tolex. Its my dream to own one that looks like that ever since i saw those bogner modded marshalls in a plexi head shell with the same colour scheme.

.Amp has two channels. Clean and Distorted. Independant master volumes, EQ and Drive. Comes with a 3 button footswitch. No reverb.

.4 el34s, 4 12AX7s

.3 gain types on the distortion channel. Plexi, modded plexi, modded jcm800. ( to my ears they sounded that way )

.Solo boost function ( kinda works as an additional master volume for you to raise your volume during solos and adds some body and bass ).

.Series efx loop with a true bypass switch to turn it off. Half power switch down to 50 watts.

.Fantastic master volume. The clean up is very very good even at very low volume levels. Despite having two channels, i find myself staying on the gain channel all the time and turning the volume knob down for lower gain and cleans. Amp is in between medium to high gain modded marshall style tones. This is your amp if your after those Nuno Bettencourt, EVH, Paul Gilbert and Geroge Lynch tones.

. Its hard to get a bad tone out of this thing. It doesn't have the fizz and too much flub in the bass most marshalls got. The sustain and note clarity is excellent no matter how much or how less distortion your using. Like a clean gain kinda thing when u hear EVH play.

.Loudest fu-cking amp i ever played. I thought the guys at the splawn forums were joking when they said volume 9 and 10 o'clock was gig volumes. They were right. Thank god it sounds great at low volumes as well. I have played the amp with the volume pushed to 6 o clock. EQ starts to balance out. Amp is gonna see some action very soon during recording using a thd 2 x 12 cabinet and a marshall 4 x 12 greenbacks cab. More clips then.

Quick demo video of the amp when i got it. Pardon the bass. The amp was played pretty loud and the camera mic is picking up all the boom and bass from my concrete walls. All amp distortion on the hot rodded jcm800 mode. Very reactive to the tones of the different pickup positions, use of pick and fingers.

Thanks for reading.

havent seen the clip, but based on the photo i think u use a 1X12 cab? Imagine this with a 4X12!!! There is a rumour gg ard that ACDC uses splawn as well, but not sure if its true.

Gr3y...Next time i will just ignore these kinda monkey...waste of time.

Brandon...that amp rocks buddy.
I wish i could hang with the guys at Splawn...learn a trick or two and they seem to be having fun all the time :)

Can't wait to hear your tunes ...;)
Maybe gate crash one of your recording sessions !!

Nice review! I find your review gives a very clear picture.. don't get a feeling of fan-boy-hype at all... pretty rad!

The amp doesn't "honk" too much too aye? And it grinds nice - didn't expect that to come from a suhr.

Nice man... Nice loud tone. What cab were you running this thru? The MESA?

nice outlook.
how much did you pay for it?
playing wise ok ok only, but thanks for the demo.

Got it when u.s.a was on " sale " 5 mths back. Abiut 2.6k sing with shipping included. Its way more expensive now.

Thanks for watching. Just a quick scrappy pieced together demo. Nothing more.

Quite a few artists use splawns these days. Killswitch engage has switched from using Mesa Boogie stilettos to them, Jon Devin of Dokken and Steve Stevens as well are some of the newer guys switching to these awesome amps. Not sure about AC/DC though. Maybe Scott Splawn just modded their marshalls.

Hahaha.. goose... maybe!

Nano - On second listen, I really like the tone you got there. I recall youtubing the Splawn long time back and people were doing the whole scooped metal thing that wasn't exactly you know, toneful.

Hey Goose. Yeah the amp really didn't dissapoint. Leap of faith paid off well. haha

Do drop by when you have time and we could have dinner together. I tried out your boosty and seventh at "Cobra studios". Good stuff. The designs and sounds are unique. I especially like the boosty. If your still making them, i will look you up once i need to make a board for shows.
