Splawn QuickRod amp review

Went over to check out the amp today...

It's as good as you know it is.

This amp deserves a death sentence for being so damn killer.

All the killer high gain tones are in this baby. Playing it made my hairs stand on end. And trust me the clips only scratch the surface of what this amp is capable of. Clean tones are great, but who gives a shit about clean tones with this amp. All I want is the gain, give me more gain...

Here are some pics we took today.

Enjoy!

Purple tolex with purple hotplate = perfect!

Nano, you need some better support to rest the splawn on the mesa cab. Congrats on the new amp!

Yes!

Stroke of luck to have the 8ohms hotplate in purple as well.

Ya i know the legs look like its hanging precariously near the edge. But its pretty ok really. Maybe i should bring the 2 x 12 home or leave the head on the floor.

Barney!!
:)

Maybe i am addicted to loudness ...i can't stomach attenuators.
My neighbours are giving the "horn" sign instead of saying hi !!

Still sounds good la! But no attentuation is always the best. Thought i'd give the hot plate a try since i had one laying around that wasn't being used.

Then must be my ears ...jialat !!
Btw ...what speaker? what cab? you gonna match it with?
Some fellas use 4x12 cab with two speakers mounted only...i must try that one of this days.

At the moment i actually like how it really sounds with the Blackshadow speaker in the Boogie oversized 1 x 12. Was thinking of ordering a 55 watt greenback clone from scott splawn or the Heritage 65 from celestion. Those greenbacks sound amazing in Edmund's 4 x 12. Might hold that off for now as the current speaker works great.

The other cab i have available is a THD 2 x 12. Those speakers sound great as well. Blackwood seems to be having good prices off their mesa boogie 2 x 12s. But its Vintage 30s and the general concensous was that vintage 30s don't sound good with the Quickrod.

Do you have recommendations?

Oh nice.

I believe in getting it correct to the amp thats goin to grind it.
Those vintage alnico speakers are nice for low watt clean amps goin for early speaker breakup NOT for High Gain aye.

So far i find the Red Fangs nice with hgainers eventho its alnico...maybe a mix combo?!
Splawn cabs come with red coats anyway....

I have a customer who had a 2x12 mix a red fang and a celestion G12H .
