It stated M'sia got 2 legal system, 1 is actually to try muslims. I feel that's sad. Please lor, i saw many malays drinking while I was in M'sia mah. I mean let's be fair, I can understand its a Muslim country but at least this kinda Muslim law isn't for their locals rather than tourist? Poor Singapore gal....

What you guys think? Hope her appeal will be successful though.

Yeah, she was sentenced to 6 strokes of the rotan. But she said she'll appeal so we'll see what happens la i guess.

I always heard Sgporeans caught doing things like this in malaysia are exempted due to the law only applied to local muslims there? Double standard when they allow you to go in casino n gamble away as long as you hold a sg passport.

Interesting.

Isn't the law supposed to be against Malaysians only? I know that, by right, you still can be trialed against the laws of the country, but shouldn't this be only enforced against the locals only?
It's not the secular law that is giving the model her sentence. It's their religious law. Shouldn't religion and politics be seperated to prevent any outcries among other religions?

I heard in middle eastern countries, where religious and political systems run hands in hands, you can get capital punishment even for stealing. Somehow,it seems to work well for those inside the countries. You go and do a survey. Not every country detest the mixture of religious and political systems.

Again i heard,if your race is Malay, you cannot change your religion to non-muslim. Especially so when the whole country is Islamic state, but i am not sure about Singapore, because Singapore is not Islamic country. Can FGL and Faizal_rocks enlighten us a bit?

just wondering... what happens if you're malay by birth, but not a muslim by choice. does the law still apply?

This, I must say, is quite... hmm.
i'm not in favour of this rule. Religion is not inherited, IMO. Religion is what you truly believe in. Your personal religion is not one that your parents push onto you or "inherited".
If you don't believe in the faith or adhere to its laws/commandments/ways-of-life/etc., then can you be considered to be part of that faith?

*declaration: i am not a muslim, nor am i well versed with interpretations of the Qur'an*

some muslims believe that apostasy in Islam should be punishable by death. indeed, long time ago in the past, all muslims believed that apostasy should result in capital punishment.

of course, in the modern times the number of muslims that oppose the death sentence for apostasy has grown significantly. and yes, muslims in the world are now divided as to how to interpret the Qur'an regarding this matter.

my information came from:
