Singapore Idol Finalist? YOUR THOUGHTS!!!!

boon is underage so cannot join .

this is popularity contest. the only way to win is to get lots of votes. those with more votes will get through to the next round of the competition and in the final ... more votes = win.
not that hard and doesn't involve any racist issue or what not but morons/losers will always try to bring in racist issue in everything.
the judges and gurmit keep repeating to vote for your fav from the beginning of the competition. good singer kena KO cos they don't get enough votes.

if you not happy that a guy/malay win the competition, stop whining and do something about it.

doesnt everyone think tat malays are:
lazy... drug addicts.. live in rehabs.. poor.. useless.. stupid..

so what can u say now stereotypers..

he won coz he deserve it... and happen to be a malay..
and malay have been winning..

so what can malay haters say now? "ban malay from idol???"...

what a joke to end 2009...

and who said that he have no talent? just becoz his a malay?

for godsake...

Dude, as a Malay person(although not fully Malay) myself, why get so angry over such a stupid thing? Is winning Singapore Idol going to take away the fact that we are poor and have quite a number of social problems? Will it take away the fact that your country was taken over, your culture, your religion is slowly dying? No, so stop caring over something as stupid as Singapore Idol.

Personally I couldn't care less. And Ken Lim has always been biased, so it's not very different. If you realise Ken Lim always gives negative comments to Malay contestants be it dress sense, dancing or actual singing. I believe it was either him or Dick Lee that commented on one of the Malay girls that she looked like a tomato one night. I mean really, the judges are trying to make the Malay contestants look bad so that they will not get as many votes from non-Malays. Taufik got really bad comments in the first season, especially from Ken Lim. On the night he performed what was said to be the best performance so far on SG Idol.

The only way to save the Idol show is to get rid of all 3 judges, and replace them with people who have no stake in who the winner is. Meaning whether or not anyone wins, the judges will not benefit in any way.

I'm really the worst person to comment on these things because I hate mainstream pop music and this whole culture of singing and dancing. Singapore Idol is a joke, and will remain to be a joke, just like local music. Congrats to Sezairi for winning, even whether he was or not the best one there, he had the most votes, and that's how the winner is chosen, so ... He won! Fair and square! I don't know if he was really the most talented(since I watch like 5 mins of Idol every week) but if he wasn't, it sure helped that Malay people tend to be a big majority when it comes to these type of talent based shows. Just see anugerah. It's crazy how many people will pack themselves into a stupid shopping centre just to hear a few people(who are just becoming popular) sing.

I don't know that Ken Lim is only a dick (pun intended) when he comments on Malays' performance, he was also a dick to Malaque Mahdaly, remember? No scratch that, he's just a dick all round.

Besides, you have to realise that this stupid anti-Malay thing is only the works of a small group of people making a big noise. Sezairi still garnered the majority of the votes from Singapore, which means Singaporeans are smart enough not to be racist when it comes to talent. At the end of the day Singaporeans are still discerning.

Well siad to DeathCubeK.
Hmm but I'd judge by how they sang in the finals . cause both of them have great voices.
Sezairi is cool with a nice tone with experience.
Sylvia is bolder than him when she sings.

Then again, alot of ppl say most of the voters are female. Cause females will vote for the males. will males vote AS MUCH for the females? i dun really think so. So sezairi got more voters in a way.
And first, NOT BEING RACIST. Malay communities are very close. And they usually do vote for a malay contestent. And thats good. shows the bond they have. but hey, they did vote for a vote-worthy contestant! Sezairi got experience cause of his band. And he'd prbably have a head start in garning support from his fans of his band. Comparing him to sylvia, i think he would grow much more in the music industry. yeap. So Sezairi almost had his whole malay community behind him. Look at the anugurah(sp) . its did take off. What does it show? The malays are enthusiatic about their talents. so they vote. Chinese? yea the majority of the population, til some think that its not necessary to vote cause there are other ppl to vote. Lol.

However, i'd rather Tabitha. Powerhouse vocals. And i think she deserves it the most. Looks, attitude and vocals. Unfortunately, not enough fans):

Whatever it is,"We the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united ppl, REGARDLESS OF RACE ,LANGUAGE OR RELIGION. To build a democratic society, base on justice and equality. So as to acheive happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation."

I think the Malay or not, or male/female idol is irrelevant.
The votes are audited by KPMG, so it reflects the general view of
the Singaporean public.

I second Boon's plead to participants of this thread to leave
race out of the discussion.
Its a messy can of worms that
doesnt need to be opened.

By the way, I'm a chinese dude and I voted for Sezairi cos he's a better musician. Most importantly he is a local musicians like us!

not to be a kpo but... well been reading this post, wow, very nasty

firstly i support sezairi, cos he's a good musician/performer etc.
But sylvia was also very great but i wonder what will sylvia do? from what i've heard, she hardly can speak chinese, or much of her native language, and what market would be available for her to expand her music?

For Sylvia, i'll say rock on to her if she won that night but what is she gonna do next, with such a small local music market?? it's weird to have a scenario (unless ure a SYLVIA SUPPORTER) to walk into HMV or a CD shop to buy her album compared to other dudes WORLD WIDE doing english songs and others would prefer using limewire and ares. lol... UNless Sylvia is super determined and would, i dunno... follow charice's footsteps as a motivation and she'll be another Duffy, or singapore could expand it's music industry and make sylvia a star...

Compared to Sezairi, he has opened doors to Indonesia, Malaysia to expand his music similarly to taufik and hady, Every time a anugerah or some gathering performance they will be there cos they can sing both malay and english songs. Sezairi, waah, Malaysia, Indonesia are all looking at him or he could choose to go there and make music.

Still it's a long road for them, and we as fellow Singaporeans, like Ken said, support the local music industry and there'll be more local stars, like renowned world wide...

I can bet my money's worth that a lot of people who are complaining about Sylvia not winning the title probably sat at home and did nothing during the show. Not a single vote from them.

If they put a few votes to back Sylvia, then I see that they have more reason to be a little cheesed. But hey, this is a popularity contest. Power to the people, and in this case, the voters. I would say boo to the people, because they didn't vote for their favourites enough.

If this was really about talent, easily the Idol will the Tabitha. She had the best vocals this whole season. Oh well, power to the people, power to the voters, and they have voted Sezairi. No complaints there

TABBY FOR SINGAPORE IDOL ! I agree. Her voice is a killer . Its a popularity . Sezairi band , Juxtapose, Have been around for long time . Than he has fans before he join the Singapore Idol . So he has advantage. The only thing I hate now is people trying to be racist . So crappy . Some chinese eventually support Sezairi . And some malay was hoping for Sylvia. So its a fair game .

in my opinion , would you want a philipines to represent singapore in singapore idol . i mean the winner shud be the one who represent singapore as an icon , in this situation i guess sezairi winning is better . at least the world can see that singapore do have a nice music scene

Please lah, we are 99% musicians here, I am sure we can look at the music capabilities rather than non-issues like race, gender ...

To DeathCubeK:

I love the part where you mention SG idol as being a joke. Couldnt agree more.

Yes and why are you guys bothering about the race of the guy who won? Isnt it SG idol not Racial idol?

Whenever someone wins something here in SG there will always be the sour grapes to complain about this and that. From sports to even things like this, I really dont get the point of doing so. Will ur wiseass comments change the facts that he/she won? No? Then type such things for? Nowhere else to spend kinetic energy channeled to your fingers?

Firstly to those anti malay blokes here take your hatred somewhere else. Dont use this as a platform to try to voice your views which will only instigate trouble. ( Btw im not a malay, im a chinese. So dont think im being bias ).

Secondly to those getting emo and touchy over the racial comments made, this is a freaking internet forum. 95% of the people here as well as elsewhere on the internet are keyboard warriors and you cannot stop them from typing anything they want. Hence theres no point getting upset over things you cannot control stop wasting your time and emotions.

SG Idol 09 is over. This thread can be closed asap. I sense trolls/flamers/haters coming.
