Singapore Idol Finalist? YOUR THOUGHTS!!!!

eh guys. i don't follow this thread but a quick look at a few pages back ah, and i realised there isn't anybody here complaining about racist issues here.

i think u guys are referring to comments made by others from other sources on the web?

stop asking people to "eh chill guys don't racist" because no one here is being racist k? =_=

well, some of my friends voted Sezairi because guess what? Because they said they dont want a pinoy PR woman to win the Sg Idol! weird.

but i can see sezairi trying break through Malaysia music market.
and Sylvia, i think she will become a good singer. she will become local artist who perform regularly at esplanade, jazz club etc.. but regional artist? not sure.. she cant sing in mandarin well, her native language is also not good. maybe she could try sing in malay (like m'sia idol winner Jaclyn Victor who's an indian. yes, her voice's so powerr!!) since she can speak malay.

Remember Cherry Chocolate Candy, winner of talentime '01? the judges said they got the 'wholesome package' (like sylvia) but where are they now? totally vanished from music scene. at least Triple Noize do perform and Dj-ing at the clubs.
ah well, that's my two cents of thoughts.

and why must everyone who want to be a regional artist sing in their own native tongue? why cant a regional artiste be english based?

tsk tsk tsk.

i hope this mentality changes. we cant always be this shallow-minded if we want to progress.

I support Sylvia! Although the winner of the Singapore Idol doesn't really affect me very much.. I think that Sylvia definitely possesses the elements of a winner. Her voice is beautiful.

:)

better do it... theres fire in mediacrop froum~

well think about it this way as well, they are all winners, either way all of them became somebody from nobody and this will definitely help them in their future musical careers. Reuben did better than clay aiken in post-AI so who knows what might eventually happen in future for both the SI winners.

ok bros sisterz...

even tho i am underage... i will take fgl's advice to join idol next year.
i will start practicing tonite onwards... maybe meditate at a far far far away land... to find peace and lizards.

diowsky: underage can join la! must vote k

ps: i am bored in the office...

You care to elaborate on this comment?

I'm saying, the local music scene is a joke. By local music scene I'm referring to Singapore's music subculture. And joke meaning something that is said or done to make you laugh, for example a funny story.

Today's New Paper sure was crazily biased against Sezairi. I was truly shocked as to how bad the report was. Totally one sided garbage.

Don't get me wrong, I like neither one of the finalists, and if they were to perform on TV i will probably change the channel or go "why the hell is this performance so damn long!!" And it's funny to say that Sezairi has no star power. But if Sezairi got more votes, doesn't that mean he does have somewhat star power? Which would you rather have, someone who may not be the best vocalist but sells alot of CDs and is wanted to perform on many different stages or someone who is supposedly way better in vocals(I don't feel this way cause I don't even know how she sounds like, just using what I read on this forum and NP) who has trouble selling CDs because the people who said she's good are just stingy towards spending money for English music.

DeathCubek: im pretty sure that was way off what u meant, especially when ur explaining the JOKE part.

And joke meaning something that is said or done to make you laugh, for example a funny story.

because for me i dont realy give a rat's ass about singapore idol.
i've been in the local scene for the past 13 years of my life, and we've worked hard for what we have now, and it certainly isn't a joke to many.

let just put everything behind.... the idol show is a entertainment show like biggest loser or amazing race. it's all to the benefit of the broadcaster. :)
whoever wins, good for them. cause the money they spend on smsing is more then the actual prizes they're getting.
I'm wondering why not just ask those people who sms donate into a singapore music scene funds and help artiste and bands to mature further rather then letting the evil broadcaster's earn? :P

Not necessarily. We've seen time and time again that so-called stars on TV can flop badly in the music industry. Television and the music industry are two different animals. Now that the show has ended and Sezairi no longer has weekly airtime to perform and market himself, how effective will he be in translating his votes into sales? How effective will he be at presenting a record to the public? Reuben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, or even Hady Mirza, anyone?

I'm not saying that Sezairi won't be able to make a record that is commercially relevant. I'm sure as a musician he'll be able to approach recording with more in the box than previous Singapore Idols did. I'm just saying that we shouldn't assume that just because Sezairi won more votes means he's more commercially relevant. That pov is, pardon my french, utter crap. People like Chris Daughtry prove that just because you didn't get votes doesn't mean you won't get sales.

I still wondering on why they label Sezairi and Sylvia as:

Sezairi - Singer-musician. What is that? Isn't a singer also a musician? No?
Sylvia - The first female finalist. So..the main attraction about her is that she is female? Why touch on sex here?

This is (supposedly) a singing competition, no?

My opinion on Sezairi: I still think he is a band frontman type of performer, or maybe an acoustic singer like Jason Mraz. To me, he doesn't have the X-factor that allows him to rule the stage.

Sorry, didn't mean it that way. What I meant is that the local music industry doesn't have the support from fans needed to be anything big here, even much less overseas. It's just our way of life, Singaporeans are just not very interested in the arts. I don't want this thread to be another 'why the local music scene sucks' so let's leave it at that.

One of the more sensible comments I've seen in this thread. Good one.

Besides, I think the most recent incident I can think of was when Chris Daugtry joined American Idol. He dropped out at... 6th place I believe? And he's more famous/established then the winner.

I don't think Seizari can ride on the "Singapore Idol" title for long. I'm hoping that he'll put the contract into good use and get Juxtapose to record a full album.

Speaking of which, where IS Juxtapose? Haven't heard from them for a long time...

ok then the next singapore idol competition should have an additional rule.
Then everything will be ok. Just like looking for a job.

"able to sing in mandarin"

im being realistic here. this is not a talent show, more like money making from the companies involved.

A malay guy can only go as far as Malaysia, and singapore of course.

But If a Chinese speaking person were to win it, they could be marketed in Taiwan, Hong Kong and all the other Chinese speaking countries. More $$$.

But then again, how many people in Singapore, who voted for the Singapore Idol past winners, actually bought their CD. or go to their shows?

TV is a powerful medium. Once they are off TV, thats it.
I wont be surprised if Sezairi will be hosting the next Singapore Idol.

You win Singapore Idol, you get to host the next Singapore Idol. How exciting.
