ShredcowNew Guitar Day...

nice woody looking!

Heh, just for the fun, try using another humbucker geetar you have, record the same thing(same playing if possible, if not try recording 2 more same clips using different geetar) one more time, same setting on whichever that can be adjusted.

Let us hear it without knowing which geetar was used.

just for me shreddy! Lup choo deep deep

Happy NGD! I normally don't like your Palmer-recorded clips, but this one turned out quite nice sounding. Not sure if that's a testament to the tone of this particular guitar or if you changed whatever recording settings you're using...

I think its settings... I've not been bothered about the tweaking for some time but recently, I got the itch going on to tweak and stuff, so I've been listening to myself a lot more. Or maybe its... that Vox cable... no wait... its there in its bag! Hmmm... Hehehe...

The guitar looks really monstrous! Reminds me of the Gibson BFG, but a Fender Strat version. Very cool! Please drop a P90 in the neck position!

A P90? Hmmmm... was actually thinking of a Dimarzio Chopper if I ever wanted to add another pup because I really dig the tones of the Chopper from the clips I hear. But doing that would defeat the purpose of getting the guitar in the first place!

woooshhh gotta love that openhaus sound. too bad it takes so much more than just the pedal to achieve it.

Most of the tone is from the Openhaus. Trust me.

Here Pathein... I just swapped guitars around.

I'm not sure why you're asking for this but it would be good to know why.

thanks many! Its just for comparison. So that i can hear how different between the sound.

With one clip, i tend to listen to the playing and nothing else. Since theres no comparison. At least with 2 clips, its all so much clearer.

Heh, best, please dont tell which one is from which geetar, just let it remain in the dark.

Nice ...i think the tone zone does work ha !
I really adore the dark wood ...
Nice clips too ...only that i find it having that added mids a bit chockey.
Note separation ok but can be better ..... all in all good job cow

Actually goose, I set the TZ higher because I want that sludgy-ness. There's a mid-range honk that I can't really dial out though... Can't have everything huh?

The Viper in this guitar was killer clear and very raw... screaming!

Nooooo... no more pots/knobs on this guitar... It is meant to fulfil a certain purpose so I hope to keep to that purpose. Hahaha, actually, I can imagine, Goose, the amount of mods I could plonk on this thing. Series/parallel/split, passive mids control, passive (normal) tone control (with toggle-able cap values), passive bass control, phase switch, kill switch, bypass switches for each control, etc etc

Ized, you're right. The thing has a nice vocal-ness to it. Awwww... and it seems to play with a wah very nicely alright.

Mind giving a brief description of the fretwork on the warmoth neck on this guitar versus the USACG neck on your other guitar? Did you need to do any fretwork on your USACG previously after assembly?

After staring at so many custom builds here I am just itching to get a custom partcaster going. From the ease of ordering standpoint, warmoth seems to have USACG beaten, their website definately more comprehensive, with well documented options. Just that from all the comments so far, it seems that USACG has the better fretwork and fret end rounding, while most Warmoth necks seems to need levelling before they can be assembled.

Comments from anyone else with partscaster also welcome :)

I don't have a lot of experience with Warmoth AND USACG... but yeah, from what I've read, USACG has better quality necks. USACG might not offer as many options but they do seem to have the edge in quality and customer service. Warmoth is like Toy R Us.

The USACG I have, the frets needed minimal dressing and - set to go. 1 fret was slightly (and I do mean SLIGHTLY) too low, 6th fret, but well, okay, not a biggie. Nice worn in feel on my piece... rolled edges, nicely rounded fret ends, no tooling marks. Glossy finish on headstock was perfectly done.

The Warmoth had 3 frets that were too high and the last 4 frets had been shaved lower than usual. The fingerboard & frets had no rolled edges - I can feel the frets at the edges and its a little hard to slide around quickly. There were tooling marks behind the neck. Otherwise, nothing serious... the 3 high frets were the real annoyance.

congrats on the new guitar shredcow :) looks good and definitely sounds great...yeah i can hear the openhaus in the clip :)

Thanks for the fret comparison Shredcow, seems like USACG is definately the way to go.

And of course, nice guitar! Love the bare wood finish and that hardtail bridge is something else, definately looks better that the standard Fender hardtail bridge thats for sure! :)
