sansamp gt2

by chaining your effects in the effects loop, you bypass the pre-amp of your amp, which is a good thing sometimes.

what you guys are forgetting is that the GT2 functions as a modeller/preamp of sorts and running it straight into the input of your amp isnt going to have fantastic results. the gt2 should either be run in the effects loop (bypassing the amps/preamp) or to a power amp/flat response PA speakers.

ya but my amp doesnt have efx loop :oops:

Actually, the entire sansamp range is designed to work well in both situations. Be it with a guitar amp setup or with PA/direct in. As far as flat response goes, guitar preamps aren't usually as "lo fi" as guitar speakers are. As long as you set ur amplifier's preamp to introduce less color, it's fine.

When using a GT2, I would still like to be able to fine tune my tone using the amp's preamp section and also tweak my clean tone when the GT2 is bypassed.

Personally, when recording with the GT2 direct in, I would still run it through a redbox (cabinet simulator direct box).

Well ... I agree with Fretless... Its nice to have the amp controls to further tweak your tone...

Sometimes, I do find the speaker sim of the GT2 kind of lacking IF you are doing direct recording. But it does beat miking up with its 1am in the morning! :)

ok what if i want to use like chorus and flanger and delay for clean? i must connect them before the gt2 right?

so if i got a wah, and other pedals, i connect like:

guitar-->wah-->chorus-->flanger-->delay-->gt2-->booster-->amp

assuming i dont have efx loop?

Still put em behind the GT2 in case u ever wanna use em for dirty. For clean, it doesn't matter if it's behind or in front of the GT2 if the GT2 is already bypassed.

Guitar -> wah -> gt2 -> booster -> chorus -> flanger -> delay -> amp

i dunno but i feel that the booster should be before the GT2. I tried putting the booster(sd-1) after the tri-ac, it seems to control the volume greatly, which i hate.

but all this is personal preference. find what is best for ya.

That's the point of using a solo boost :) For greater volume during solos. Like I mentioned, I dun think the GT2 needs a booster that adds gain, as it already has more than enough built in :D

but is a booster able to like change the EQ settings and gain and volume?

I agree with this... I have one and I find it's not that great plugging it into certain amps. For direct to PA and recording it works fine. For recording I plug mine into the mixer, record the sound and then use the speaker sim in Guitar Rig to beef up the sound. It won't give you a miked sound, but it can get close.
My advice is to try it out, don't buy blindly.. I don't and wouldn't advise you to use it as a distortion pedal... my trusty sd-1 is enough :p

I compared the analog-modelled sounds of the GT2 with the modelled sounds of Guitar Rig software. I find that the GT2 sounds better, but not by a mile. It is that little more crisp, which is really not that significant coz in a mix it won't be noticable. (unless you're playing a solo guitar piece)

Pier.

hehe nebo - if u're happy with ur current pedal setup, i can assure u that u don't need the GT2 at all. 8)

go aim for a good axe... or a bigger amp man... your sound will totally sound different with different speaker sizes man. :D

james right?
its pretty much hit and miss with the GT2 for running straight into an amp... we managed to get a really nice high gain sound with the GT2 into a marshall DSL head..but this was for recording... it doesnt seem to work as well with alot of other amps.. what are you running yours through?

i've heard the behringer GT2 ripoff...it sounds absolutely terrible..but for 60 bucks...what the hell. i'd love to see the price they go for used in a few months or so.

i have one of those new behringer EQs...the absolute WORST,shoddly made piece of crap i have ever had the misfortune of owning. flimsy plastic construction,terrible switch,and tonnes of noise with all the bands set FLAT.

The GT2 isn't normally part of my setup. However, I do use it whenever I'm lazy to bring my main board. I've ran it through a Mesa Rectoverb, Rivera Thirty Twelve, Mesa 50/50, and a couple of small Marshall & Peavey practice amps. With some tweaking on the amp end, it worked pretty well on all of the above mentioned :)
