S.O.F.T building

(like the one which you said your tele made you wanna play like Jim Root in drop tunings and THOA hilariously came down on you).

I reread that thread again. Just had to laugh at it, lol. Have to admit, I was being downright mean la basically. But was feeling bloodthirsty somehow that time so he became convenient target.

Teleplayer: About digging of threads, not only you ah, even the some senior members here quite guilty of it. We tend to do searches on questions we have so we know that there are some info prior. We don't want to ask the same old, same old again. It's annoying to see it asked to death when all the info required can either be refereed from past threads or googled up over the net. A majority of us hates it when someone does not seem to put in effort to look deeper into his interest, and instead rely on info being spoon fed. We are not your parents or teachers.

Anyway, when old threads are being looked up on, sometimes a question or opinion might spring into our mind and we can accidentally dig up the thread by replying on it. Not the first time for such a thing to happen. Never will be the last.

But Ized is right. I really think that before you start a thread, consider the thoughts you are trying to put forth before you say something. A lot of the threads you write are based on misguided assumptions and naivety, not facts, experience or even educated guesses. It gets more annoying when you try to give advice on topics that you barely know about. When the blind is trying to teach the blind to see, how will vision ever be attained?

Best to take this time you are on SOFT to read, take notes, refer, and then after that try it out yourself to see what you can conclude. Then use that knowledge and experience to relate it to others.

Good luck.

Actually to add on, a SOFT building created by one wealthy individual/group of people isn't that bad of an idea. Think about it, maybe just 2 or 3 levels. Rental from 3 jamming studios, 2 cd shops, one kopitiam and let's say 2 other shops selling music merchandise. Rent received from a single unit of space is roughly $2.5k, multiply that by 10 that will be $12,500 amount of rent revenue per month. And this is being quite prudent, considering that the calculated amount is based on so little space being rented out. There can be advertisement revenue, all kinds of other revenue sources that I don't know about or can't think of.

Seriously if someone did have the wealth and properly planned this out, it has the potential to be both profitable AND useful. I know I would if I had the wealth, or found a group of like-minded people, and if I wasn't so lazy, I would seriously consider this option. People who are instantly shooting this idea down simply aren't business-minded, only think of the costs and give up immediately.

Given our current economic state , I'd like to see anyone try . Tim098 I know i'm full of shit but so what ? what are you gonna do about it . Sue me ? hahaha and yes I do post more informative items on soft. I don't think , I know .

Nice job on the mental sums btw , hey you should totally try out being the sites financial advisor . $12,500 a month , not a bad profit margin . Now factor in the power bills , cost of upkeep for the buliding as well as the studios , staff salaries (with the fat baby bonuses and cpf) oh and not forgetting taxes. How much does that leave you? Mr Warren Buffet.

Think before you post la .

There are a million other ways to earn revenue. It is 2.10 AM and I am not even seriously discussing this the way I would if I was considering it myself, and I don't intend to because I do not know enough specifics. What I DO know is that this is a profitable idea if done right. Shoot me with your utility bills and income tax and whatnot, as long as you profit more than the costs, what else matters?

Besides, if you have immediate wealth, a recession is not bad. Prices fall, you can spend more. Many people's fortunes are actually made during times like these.

yupp not everybody suffers . Tell you what , prove me wrong and I'll shut up . Go set up this building . The gauntlet is on the floor , are you gonna take up the challenge?

Haha Zax, I will tell you that I honestly considered it already. I am still young and my parents have their hands full with a business overseas so I doubt I would even think about it anytime soon.

But honestly I can tell you this, over the span of our time in Singapore, someone will try this idea out. It is a business plan, and it is up to the investors to make it feasible. Hell, even I wouldn't mind properly charting this out if and when I have the capital. A building is going to cost quite the bit.

Btw k lah edit out my malicious intent in the other posts, I think the early morning hours + my runny nose are making me cranky, sorry.

I dont think immediate wealth is what most of us have at the moment. If not James wouldnt have to work a day job while being the adminstrator of SOFT in his own free time.

Refer to THOA's post about the TS posting new threads....Its not so much about the feasibility of the idea but the intentions and thoughts behind the TS posts. Granted, what you said is fair game but I highly doubt it can be sustained. Its already not easy to keep a site SOFT afloat, not to mention a SOFT building of that scale. But your ideas give some food for thought....

Ok. Strike Toto! :D

From NAC website:

"Arts Housing Scheme...
interesting idea, not impossible..
i was involved in the initial launch of the project,
specifically in the earlier part before it expanded like now.. =p

my take is go indie, find a balance..
not totally underground, not to dependant on nac
get together, build a solid foundation, focus, propose.. there you go =)

Most feasible idea now is having a space, a room maybe for soft. But then, in my opinion, internet should stay as the internet.

If the room or building happens, you're gonna see shit like EH NOT HAPPY #$%#$^ I MEET YOU SOFT BUILDING SETTLE? ON BOH? WHAT YOUR USER NAME? WHAT YOUR NUMBER, I MEET YOU THERE SETTLE FACE 2 FACE!

internet-serious-business.jpg

that is nothing compared to what one will face in the real world, real life politics do exist
there may be riffs not just here its everywhere, be positive see it in a broader perspective..

from what i understand (correct me if im wrong), soft is sounds of friends together is it not?
*teleplayer is suggesting a building or place to make/meet more friends & interact, study/teach music/sound/instruments etc.??
if its a viable idea, work it out, suggest to james, hear his views & advice, be prepared for the worst, if its a healthy vision, go ahead... else fine tune

*teleplayer may be a pain in the a** sometimes(no offence meant tele).. lol

ohoh okay thanks for telling me... Lol. I know there's some people here whose english is damn good. haha. I saw that guy in zax's all threads by him.. Lol... no rep point -.-

no point if england damn gd or use big2 word wat... its just english, not god.
rep points... aiyah... if u got a million oso no news la.
but kids this days are reli getting clever... or am i feeling old liao

Once again going back to the topic.
The wealth someone (aka gahment) is already creating this building.
Its called Scape.

Ok so its no a SOFT owned building, but then even better. Don't have to worry about a lot of the costs!
The final building will have a bunch of jam studios, i heard maybe even a recording studio, retail space, an indoor performance area that can accommodate up to 1000 pax! Seems to me that if ppl are looking for a place to meet the need (real or not) identified by TS then this is it.

..a soft building does not sound like a good idea... I mean, BUILDINGS HAVE TO BE HARD OR THEY'LL COLLAPSE!

BWAHAHAHAHA

damn lah teleplayer, you reminded me of myself like 4 or 5 years ago, when i was young and wanted to be yngwie malmsteen (for those of you who can remember me saying that haha)

but i must say, you're pretty submissive when being corrected and when criticized upon. i gotta hand it to ya, you'll learn well. a plus point for you.

and for the soft building thing, not offence lah but wake up your idea. no one will use it, and even if people do who is gonna ta everything in terms of rental, electricity etc. then you also have to make the place and the various facilities and activities there nice so that more people will come and also bring their friends as well.

4 words to choke upon: no money no talk.

i find that this very forum has brought us together since the very beginning, regardless of the date you joined or wether you are damn lau jiao. you think about it really, or maybe just visualize. we wouldn't be really interacting with each other that much. sure, we hide behind screens and share our views and takes about music all day but hey, it at least got us somewhere and the result is that we made friends, bands are formed, proper and organized discussion takes place etc. don't tell me that can happen if that building was around lol.

i would rather go through the trouble opening a jamming studio than this kind of building.

cheers =)

To be perfectly honest, i never really understood why some people cannot take ideas positively. Given that the TS has posted many redundant threads, but can't we all try to see each new thread in an unbiased manner and not base it on the TS rep. I'm willing to bet that if someone else, especially a senior member, started this thread, there'll be less flaming going around. Sure, go ahead and flame me for saying all this. But, sometimes i think we all need to sit back, relax and take things with a pinch of salt. No need to get involved in useless arguments online with people you don't really know. Can't we all think positively and offer constructive ideas and stuff like that? Or at least, state the limitations and errors in the idea without all the 'can't you do some thinking' or 'grow up lah' stuff? I thought that this was a good idea, but like many mentioned, its likely to remain an idea. Like Ized said, its more about the intention behind the post. I'll give the TS the benefit of doubt and take his intention as trying to help SOFT to become more prominent locally instead of the 'oh he's trying to up post count' or 'oh he's trying to attract attention' trains of thought. SOFT was created so local musicians could gather and help each other. I don't think flaming helps anyone at all, if anything it degrades the constructive work already done.

Sorry about the rant, i've seen this once too often already and had to let it out. No offence meant against anyone and i'm not targeting anyone.

ARGH OOPS. My goodness i am SO embarassed. (flushes red). But i shall leave my comments behind, because i feel that they still apply. Shit jetlag really addles the brain.
