question that might have been asked thru the ages

Hey folks!

was kinda just wondering, cause i have a strat you see, and my strat is wired in such that it has a master tone knob and a blender knob.

now thing is, i'm planning to get rid of the mastertone and in its place, put something else in there like a kill switch or some switch that will change the configs of my pickups.

now big question, will the tone from my pickups be altered if they are not wiredup to my master tone knob?

thanks folks!

Yes.

But you might not like it, especially if you are using single coils or you have a bright sounding guitar.

Disconnecting the tone pot restores even more highs to your tone. Its like adding sizzle to your tone. Everything else is the same, just that there's a sheen of sizzle. Heh. Words fail here.

If you can, find the mp3 to this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNnRmTdlcWg

The guitar has just 1 volume control... mahogany body and a maple/rosewood neck.

Oh, and I've disconnected my tone pot on my guitar.

I realized that I really just need a volume control and a toggle switch to toggle a high pass filter on/off.

hoho i could use that, i like that touch of brightness. think i might do it sometime soon. =) thanks folks! oh yeah just a noobish question lastly. doing this will not cause noiseless pickups to hum wil they?

you gotta try to know. There's a certain "grind" to it and some people call it "plink" or even ear-piercing.

And no, having no tone does not cancel hum-cancelling.

you can simulate a permanently on tone knob with a 470k resistor and of course an ORANGE DROP cap. ;)
