Well am a fan of prs wide fat neck 22 frets. Got 2 of em, with that config. N yeah as for me since am not very particular about the guitar 'newness' I wont plonk the money necessary to buy a PRS first hand. Id rather get a Thorn, or a Driskill guitars, which is hand made and the qualilty is very similar to a PRS PRIVATE STOCK for the same price as a regular PRS. My 3rd guitar will someday be either one of them.
But i concur that prs is one of the highest quality mass production guitar, with very consistent quality. I dont really require 10 top, gold harware yadda2,.. so tts y i tend to aim for 'cheaper' priced prs.
Since your investing on a new one, well please opt for the correct neck carve custom 24 has either wide thin (more ibanez), or regular (more fender). As for me id rather get the prs 3 way with coil tap as compared to the prs 5 way. I have both of config on my 2 prs the SAS has the 3 way coil tap, the standard has prs 5 way. The 3 way is much more user friendly, especially live. Am saving up to convert the standard to a prs 3 way with coil tap.

Well tts my 0.0002 cents worth

Hey Lifehouse

Mine is a Custom 24 20th Anniversary model that I bought around 3 months ago. It has a wide thin neck, 10 top in Blue Matteo - Davis seems to order lots of this Blue for some reason. :) Personally I love everything about it except the lack of pickup covers - just my personal preference.

On the subject of ordering a built to order, I personally am wary of this - you may wait 6 months and end up being dissatisfied with the figure of the wood or finish - for this amount of dough, I myself prefer to play the guitar that I will end up owning.

Regarding a Goldtop Les Paul - I wouldn't trade my PRS for 2 of those. I've tried almost every one of those at Bras Basah or Sims Swee Lee outlets and didn't like the necks (thickness or comfort) or fret finish on any of them.

Ah ic2. The braz rosewood in the artist pack bumps the price by quite a bit. Actually i almost got a CU 22 with almost the same colour as your baby, but certain chain of events leads it to 'transform' to become an SAS. Not that am complaining, I have half a mind of getting Fralin Twangmaster Pickup set (Humbucker sized single coil) to transform it to a Fender/PRS thing hahaha,..

Well hopefully my 3rd guitar will look sumthing like the one above, custom made thorn for the price of a new PRS. The only change id do is to put 2 p90s (neck n mid) n 1 humbucker for the bridge, and sum funky switching option. Ah well,...

i play a prs mccarty in black cherry, it's a non-10 top and it's got the moon inlay. i would definitely recommend the mccarty over a custom or other model, it's got a much more vintage sound (they're not bsing when they say it does). when i bought it new i tried it back-to-back against a custom and i liked the mccarty much more because the tone is much more balanced-pretty flat but with its own "sweet" sound. it doesn't quite do death metal but for me it covers everything from hendrix to metallica very very very well.
the lack of a trem isn't a big deal, although if you do order one with a trem i'd suggest trying to refit the tuners with locking tuners (which i think can be done if you buy 3rd party pegs, although that would void the warranty).
i think prs is really underrated because alot of shitty guitarists (ie billy martin and mark tremonti) use prs.

hi, I thought I'd share that McCartys' customised with tremolo bridges automatically come equipped with PRS's locking tuners.

Mine came that way.

note: for all interested in McCarty's, when unplugged its already tonally different given that the body (width) is slightly thicker than the Customs. That little addition of body mass does have an effect.

I think PRS are overrated actually. Ibanez, Schecter and Carvin are underrated IMO. And no. Mark Tremonti is not a shitty guitarist. Not the best, but defintely not a shitty one.
