Before I start, please don't reply to the thread if your replies are not constructive nor directly related to my request/questions below etc.

I'm set on buying or rather ordering either a PRS Custom 24 (22 nope) or McCarty. So far I've read reviews from HC and state side, I would like to hear views from local PRS Users, people who have used one before or played and tested it thoroughly. Maybe people can tell me the tonal difference you find in the 3 way push pull selector or the 5 way rotary switch. It's a 6 months wait and quite a sum as well as probably being the first real expensive guitar I will get. So some feedback from users will be really nice.

Side track abit. I can't seem to find a colour I like more than others. I love them all! I've put in a poll for the fun of it.

Lifehouse,

I have a McCarty that I ordered with a tremolo bridge instead of the fixed bridge. Thats another option you can consider. Take note, I did so as I didn't mine trading off a little sustain for a bit of the "bounce" sound coming off from having tremolo bridges (I didnt want to stray too far from Strat-style guitars).

I ordered mine with a 3 way switch and push/pull tone knob for splitting the humbuckers.

If you play out regularly, you'd probably prefer the 3 way toggle which is easier to switch between the tones on the fly.

The 5 way rotary switch as you know, looks like just another knob and blends in better cosmetically.

If you don't mind taking your time to switch between tones, the rotary switch works just as well. In retrospect, I'd order any further PRS with a rotary switch since I dislike the push/pull knob for the split-coil tones. The knob can sometimes come off if you pull too hard and if you strum in a messy manner, you bound to knock the up-position knob back down.

My 2 cents

I have a 91 prs CE. i have tried custom 24s before and they sound THICK.... it is however a different sound from my trusty CE due do obvious differences. sorry to burst your bubble but i kinda feel that the new prs are not really worth the 4-5K price tag. However the 5way rotary is extremely versatile and you can get a really cool array of sounds. nothing really "special" or amazing though. i personally took it out for the 3way cus it was easier to switch around.

think wisely man. they dun make them like they used to 9 yrs ago. ever thought of tom andersons?? *drool*

OH YAH and the prs trem is amazing... TRUELY amazing. mine is 13 years old. and its still solid as a rock.

I'm still taking a look around. If I'm not getting the PRS, I'll probably just stick with a Gibson LP Goldtop.. But I'm still a PRS fan by heart.

hey. if u wan sumthing extremely similar to a prs why dun u try a quicksilver made by ed roman. its very similar but much better than de prs in many ways. website is www.edroman.com. prices r pretty similar too n this is a handmade guitar by de way.

by de way i just went to davis yesterday n they haf a new stock of prs guitars. a few of them haf 10 tops. n de nicest is de brown. do go check them out. :D

Nope. No QS. I just dont like the Ed Roman guys. If you hang out at US forums long enough, you will know that Ed does not stand by his products.

icic. dats interesting. haha. well. if i were u id go n try out a prs b4 i buy 1. every guitar is unique n different. take time b4 u spend. prs is damn ex haha but worth every cent

I just checked out Ed Roman's site for the first time yesterday. Seems like he knows his stuff.

Which sites are you referring to when you say he doesn't stand by his products? He seems to get a lot of flaming from other forums, but he's not afraid to respond (kinda like Todd McFarlane). I've tried looking for PRS forums but couldn't find one which is really alive.

BTW, maybe you should try look for a pre-1995 PRS if you have the means.

It is true to a certain extent what Ed Roman says about modern PRS guitars not being "hand made". If you've seen the PRS promo DVD, you'll see all the bodies carved out by a CNC machine. They still use real people to do sanding, fretting, inlays, etc. I'm just guessing this means that every single pre-95 PRS was carved by hand?

Whatever Ed Roman says, he also maintains that PRS still make great guitars, relative to most of the other makes on the market today. He's just saying the old ones were better.

Lookin for PRS forums? - check out Birds & Moons http://forums.birdsandmoons.com/forum/index.php?

The nature of complaints in the forums about Ed Roman is actually quite serious.

I can't bring to mind any other retailer getting so much flack from so many different forums and so consistently over the years.

Whilst its good to give him the benefit of the doubt, it does make one wonder how he truly does his business to earns so many negative comments, some bordering on outright cheating.

pre 95 prs ce24s are really some of the best guitars ever made... i didnt know about all that ed roman stuff before getting one , and THANK god the guy who sold it to me didnt know nuts either... the neck shape is fantastic and THE HEEL FROM HELL is really a big hindrance... i tried a 01 custom 24 and the heel was really in the way ... much like a strat's joint... the flame back then was much nicer too , i got a nice dark gray ( er...black? ) flame maple top ... its not a AAAA+ 3D top grade book match etc... but it was a real nice top ... much better then the ones today... its 13 years old now... and i really think it will last another 10.... solid axe..if you find a pre 95 ce below 2k...jump at it , sell everything just get it. its worth it.

Thanks for the tip, JM!

Birds and moons is exactly what I was looking for. Great forum for PRS.

Thanks again!
