Ok... Looking for more nice Prog Rock/Metal bands to check out. I've got the following so far, which I think is cool:

  • Fates Warning
  • Symphony X - My Fav
  • Dream Theater - My Fav
  • Shadow Gallery
  • Ayreon - My Fav
  • Transatlantic
I'm totally getting into this heavy sounds with nice melodic singing (note, no grunts or death-metal vocals please). But I'm looking for more similar bands.

Any other suggestions?

great to hear that there are derek sherinian fans out here( he's under-rated). planet X is awesome. Another prog rock band i like is the flower kings. porcupine tree is also not bad

rush
genesis
yes
king crimson
pink floyd
electric light orchestra
mahavishnu orchestra

70's prog is where it's at :)

Liquid Tension Experiment!

I also like Muse, they're called 'new-prog' or something like that. And they have really awesome bass lines.

yeah Muse is good!!!

Anyway does anyone konw queensryche?
They're quite an old band, and their vocals is quite good imo, very unique, HAHA

Sorry... I forgot to mention... I got these too. I'm looking for NEW acts...

And LTE, Planet X and Platypus were already covered in my 2000 expose into Prog Rock...

So, it's Opeth and Muse that's worth checking out? How about Iced Earth? Anyone?

I onli listened to 1 iced earth song before, forgot the title, but to me they seem more of power metal than prog

derek sherinian underated ... here?? hehe he was in dream theater before.

hear queensryche's operation mindcrime I and then compare to DT Scene from a memory.... look like really "scene from a memory".

dont forget Asia also. they now even split into two bands.

Did you know that Mindcrime has a Part II? But it was recorded without the proginal guitarist/composer/writer Chris DeGarmo... They got the same recording tone vibe as part 1, even the guitars sound similar, but there's a big difference in the whole feel of the album. The first one was very focused, and you could sense a direction from the songs. Part II was just messy (mainly written by Geoff Tate). I have it, but I don't like it as much as I like part I.
