Popular Electric Guitar of this Generation

I'm a young adult at 19. I'd say the most popular design would be a tie between these three dominants: the strat, the superstrat, and the les paul. Unusual shapes don't seem so common, surprisingly. By superstrat I mean Ibanez RGs. Barely see other superstrats around.

^ yeah Ibanez RGs.. i think those are the most popular superstrats around.. at least from what i see.

my fren had a washburn, but he sold it to get an Ibanez. both superstrat.

Guess the Ibanez RG, Fender Stratocaster and the Gibson Les Paul are designs that will never die. Personally, I like the RGs the most since they're lighter and have thinner necks. But I'd never pass a chance to own a genuine Gibson Les Paul though! Got the mojo.

I think Ibanez and PRS are the new millenium's Fender/Gibsons... I could be wrong though, but it seems to be heading in this direction on a global level.

i agree with whitestrat, ibanezes seem to be getting better and better, with prestige models becoming affordable (1k+). fender custom shops dont seem to be big deals anymore..
versatility seems to be a factor too, but personally i like vintage. i like cutting sounds and smooth twang.. i like sparkly... so i like strat.

Great topic you have there, my influences have grown over the years as I played the guitar, really started out with metal, all the iron maiden, metallica etc, used to jam them. but over time, taste does change for me, now listening to lots of soft rock and now alot of J-pop also(yes alot of them...:p) I have been using the Fender strat for as long as I started on the electric, nvr regretted starting to use one, althought nowadays i still own the Lp and tele, use them occassionally for some songs to get different feels and tone wise. versatility wise? I dunno how many will argue that the strat is probably one of the most versatile guitars to fit all genres. Strat with maple necks are for me..:)

Yeah nowadays it seems more are aspiring to own a PRS than a Gibson. Wonder why though! Perhaps PRS doesn't have so bad a reputation. Honestly I'd take a PRS Singlecut over a Gibson Les Paul because the PRS's neck is thinner. Pity it costs more than the Gibson, but its worth it!

To tell the truth, I don't quite like strats because so many people have strats... But I still can't help but fall in love with a SRV strat!

guitar

I like tele but i prefer those that that have 2 humbuckers. different pple have their own taste. some even wants what their idol are having, LPs for all the wannebe zakk wylde to superstrats for the wannebes kirk hammet. some just want something out of the ordinary. me, i get the guitars that matt bellamy's is having.

heck i dont listen to the news bands. im still in the 80s 90s hard rock and metal. like many other people, i follow my guitar idol. slash uses a lespaul. so do i.

oh yeah 18 this year

I cannot help it but I just love the shape of the strat. The ergonomic design is just so... appealing, so sexy, resemble those hot babes with hot bods. Or it can resemble some of the more trendy automobiles like lambo, don't you think so? It was in existence all the way back in the early 50s and yet it still looks modern and contempory. IMO, the strat will never go out of style.

But recently, I am beginning to feel the attraction and appeal of a LP. All thanks to Slash.

guitar

i pref large headstock fenders.. n maple fingerboard fenders.
juz has tt psychedelic vibe to it..
juz my few cents worth..
cheers =)

hehe.. i think i will do a compilation of the shapes soon.. let's keep this running for a while more~ com'on i believe there are ppl who swear by explorer, flying vees or even the doraemon guitar rite?

Strats are no doubt the all time favourite but do we still use low gain pickups? stuff like malmsteen is never a low gain pup affair :D

LP for me anytime
but i oso love tele, N4 superstrat, mustang, flying v, musicman...hmm...wat dont i love? haha...
actually i accustom myself to guitars instead of choosing guitars according to my likings
