See and hear what you like, having a live experience with your peers will probably get you closest to your requirements without dropping excessive cash buying and trying.

ultimately it falls down to what you play, what type of sound you are aiming at, as well as your amp.

the alnico ii pro is for a very clear sound, to let your amp's tonal characteristic shine through. if you are more dependent on your amp sound, this pickup is good for you.

the JB is a mid/high gain distortion. If you like a trebly hard rock sound, then the JB/59 would be a good versatile combo. I don't really like the JB as it can be quite overbearing at times. And it's not the sound i was after anyway.

the 59s are something like PAFs wound a lil hotter. so they sound quite balanced. so they are considered low/med gain pickups.

i like 59s in bridge position actually. but do note. this combination might suit more for the 70s rock enthusiast like me. hahha. cos they arent exactly high output. the 59s are more commonly placed in the neck. paired up with a much higher output bridge pickup.

wow this is exactly how i feel, i use the 59 in neck and im really satisfied with the tone, paired with the jb in bridge, but now i feel like swapping out the jb, somehow the jb doesnt quite have that... hmmm

try placing a 59 in the bridge position. i really liked the result. plug it in a marshall plexi and u'll rock out like van halen.

actually the alnico II pro pickups are supposedly lower output than the 59 model. further more it utilzes alnico II magnets instead of V in the 59s.

alnico 2 magnets provide the warmest tone, hence slashes famous neck pickup tone. alnico 5 magnets tend to have more midrange punch and usually sound abit more aggressive than 2.

but it really doesnt matter which is higher output than which seriously. eddie van halen used PAFs and hear that amazing high gain tone he has.

i'd still recommend the 59 and jb combo. simply because its a tried and tested combination and many many players use it.

Why not go for both 59s at the neck and bridge position? They should complement each other well and should cover ur versatility in music. I would definitely go for this combo as I play a lot of classic rock. But If I were to play metal and drop tuning stuff, I go for something hotter than the 59 bridge pickup. JB might be the best bet for that but do explore other models and brands as well.

Dudelove: U are right when EVH uses a PAF and can still get a great tone, he even used that on the 1st album on his homemade Strat and as u know the 1st album opened up a new chapter in guitar playing back in the 80s. And that PAF was plucked out from his Gibson ES-335 jazz guitar Oh and EVH was the 1st guy ever to wax pot a pickup and other have followed since.

so if i were to use both '59 it would contribute to low-mid gain distortions and good cleans? alnicos have warmer cleans then the '59s? wad are jbs good for? normally people use cleans on neck because it has a warm trebly feel instead of bridge? and distortion(rhythm) on neck and distortion(lead) on bridge? coz i have little knowledge abt pickups and at the same time i am curious and i want to know which pickup suits me best.

Bryan, 59s can get u classic rock, low to mid gain tone and good cleans as well. I would say u have all-round sound. Don't think twice. Just go for it
