Why only boss pedals? What kinda sound you going for?
The Boss CE-2 is quite a good chorus, the mij ones.
I don't find crybaby that useful, unless you need alot of wahs, I still prefer the vox ones.

Since you got dirt already covered, I recomend that you get a delay. Ibanez de7 is a great and cheap delay that gives you an optionof clear digital repeats or analog-voiced repeats.

SM7 is ibanez what...

you wanna get a chorus BUT you don't know what does a chorus really do.

do you know what is a crybaby and what does it do?

Boss don't make crybaby pedals you know.

So what do you really want to ask?

BOSS pedals or PEDALS that are bosses?

Go to BOSS website and you can hear a lot of sound clips. Go youtube as well. Immerse yourself in all the sounds and then decide... if you want that sound then BUY BUY BUY!

i want to know the price of decent multi effects since it seems like an easier answer for now...

on second thought..i'll pass the multi effects...600 for a proper one like a GT-8...

i think i'll just take my time in saving for individual pedals...

Single pedals ain't any cheaper.. Mfx are the cheapest way to go..
Just look at most pedalboards out there! The cost rarely goes below, 500, let alone 1k..

Hmm.

As mr Edder has already prompted you to do, so I would advise as well:

get out there, listen to more songs that have the effects, sounds or tones and do the relevent research on how those bands got their sounds. Then you can try out stuff that you might be interested in...

It's one thing for people to give your recommendations, but what happens if you buy it, and it doesn't suit your taste?

One thing I always share with people who wish to foray into individual pedals, always know what you're getting into... knowing a general idea is something, actually being proactive and working towards your goals based on your own initiative is another.

So, want any more blind spoon-feeding? Or would you prefer tasting things on your own?

How do you define a "proper" as compared to an "improper" one? Have you heard and compared them?

i want a versatile tone for funk and rock to hard rock...simple as that...but i really don't think i can afford any MFX like the GT-8 or the ME-50...any alternatives?

That kind of description isn't gonna get you much help. With that broad a range, you are looking at just about nearly all the types of pedals commonly used, and they will total up to more than you think.

PLUS, you can get a second hand, near mint condition ME-50 for $350 and which offers you a good dose of everything. A good single-pedal wah can cost more than that. You do the math.

With a multifx, it's a good way to discover what each type of effect does. After you know, you can just sell the multifx back and get the pedal types you want.

350? some guy was selling the GT-8 for 550...i thought they were neck to neck?

and, will the names of bands which tones i am actually referring to help?

The first one is either a wah or/and compressor. I got a MIJ Ibanez CP9 compressor/limiter (Gilmour/Floyd) with boxyou may be interested in...& also a Monte Allum modded MT-2 you may want to have to pair up your SM-7.

in terms of price as long as you get it cheap you should be happy cos even if you dont like it, you might not suffer that huge a loss.

with regards to multifx and single stompboxes, let me ask you one thing. do you know the difference between analog and digital? i mean, so far people have been throwing recommendations but you have yet to try any of them. how would you know if you like digital? how would you know if analog suits you better?

anyway in the long run multifx are cheaper but do note as technology gets better, the price of older units will start to go down cos the newer units just seem to sound better and better. however for analog units like boss pedals, the older units sound better for some strange reason. difference in parts? perhaps.

for example: gt-8 = $600 and can give you distortion/overdrive/chorus/phaser/flanger/tremolo/reverb/delay etc etc

if you buy individual pedals for each use, just take about $100 x 8 which is the least you would spend if you were to buy individual pedals. you know which is cheaper ultimately.

but ultimately, making my own tone would be easier with single boxes or the MFX unit?considering that i get the stomp-boxes one at a time...
