overdrive isnt something thats generic for everyone, its been a long while, and many pedals have come and gone, yet i havent found THE overdrive to satisfy my needs, so i wont vote.

Please read the posting guidelines. And no, it's not about the double-posting, it's because you didn't provide enough information for anyone to provide you with an informed decision.

yeah.. sorry about the double post.. when i was editing i clicked twice.

okay, i shall provide more info.

Me:
blues, light rock, 70s/80s pop. the furthest i would go is metal leads.

i am looking for a bit more versatile pedals.

i dont need very heavy distorted sound.

using strats, no metal guitars.

thanks!

I wld say a combination of OD3 and if you can get a Ibanez Tube Screamer. Light fuzz to big fat cranks where necessary!

The Marshall Shredmaster, and its clone variants should really do the trick for you. It'll be hard pressed for you to find another pedal that actually does all the tones that you mention.

I'm using the OLCircuits Shredmeister, very happy with the amount of sounds I can get by tweaking the guitar volume knob while leaving the pedal on.

The simpler way is to get the BYOC clone version of the Shredmaster. (I find the BYOC description a little inaccurate btw. It's not exactly as heavy as described - though it can come close to 80s metal territory).

It's not exactly as heavy as described

:D Yup it's misleading ...actually if used to drive an overdriven amp ...maybe !

Those OLC circuits are nice ...but be patient in choosing your action as some may be of an acquired taste eg *amp* type pedals ...

thanks for all the replies.

i have special interests in the BD2, OD3 and JnH.. from what i heard from their webs, they are one of those better sounding overdrives.

anyway has experience? JnH is a bit more costly, but it's got 2 modes..

any suggestions?

The best ODs I have used are MI Audio Tube Zone and Fulltone OCD. When I had gotten used to the sound from these 2 boutique pedals, JnH sounds like it has a stuffy nose and BD2's tone sounds like a cardbox. These 2 are really a league way above the "ordinary" OD pedals.

But more expensive lah! $300 & $270. They are so popular that most of the time, have money oso cannot buy.

haha, jms, u are selling them right? haha, no offence.

yep, i am looking at the JnH, most probably will grab it...

wah.. not too sure yet. urs is too ex.. sorry..

Please get my overdrive pedal. Its called the Sahasrara Overdrive. I'm available 24/7. I'm located at the north west of Singapore. But that doesn't matter. I will deliver right to your doorstep.

I will give you good discount. I will love you forever.

It seems Om Labs wonderful Sashalalalash OD has not been given enough due recognition.

I want to buy!!! But can you change the chicken head knobs to something smaller at no charge? :P

BD2 - Acquired taste. I feel it's a pretty unique sound on its own. Test before buy.

OD3 - Never tried it. From what I read it seems to be an all-round OD.

JnH - Note that the JnH and the Route66 overdrives are DIFFERENT. At least to my ears, and in spite of the fact that they advertise them to be the same. They may have updated the overdrives though, I tried their 1st version only. For the record, the Route66 overdrive sounded better to me.

CANNOT! chicken head knobs to my pedals are like what my beer belly is to my body! CANNOTTTTT!!!!

not on your list:

if you love your amp's drive & need it to be boosted, this drive is recommended:

hey! thanks ppl.

have heard the Austin gold od on musician friend. not bad!

quite similar to the visual sound products?

anyone is selling?

To add on to the Tubezone, I feel that you should get it as it could pretty much fulfil all your needs, and even if genres you play in take a change, it's still a keeper. Well worth it, and definitely better than buying, use a while, go "I need a better OD" and sell, the cycle repeats... hence potentially spending more in the process right?

Of course, there's also a case of people not liking Tubezones. But that is rare (right?).

I'd recommend you to try out Crunchbox, Barber Direct Drive, maybe even Xotic BB Preamp, AMT Tube Platinum (If u like dense tube sounds), Ibanez Tube screamer TS-9, Moen Deep Blue.

I feel that these pedals are very versitile, able to tweak them to achieve extream ranges...
