Yeap, I agree with LadyInTears, you should change the amplifier as it is the largest factor for tone, and next comes the pedals too, which also play an important role in getting a good tone. As for the string buzz problem, it is well adviced that you visit a guitar technician to get your guitar set up, with new strings. Old strings also tend to be muffled as compared to new strings, which sound brighter.

Hope that helped! :D

Cheers,

Dear friend i think you are confused here and many factors will affect the tone u currently arent satisfied with.

Firstly, as the others have mentioned the amp youre playing through will definitely affect your tone. A 5000$ guitar plugged into a crap amp will probably lose out to a $1200 guitar plugged into a decent one.. The idea here is to test your guitar through another amp and see how it sounds like. If both differ you can roughly guess where your problem lies..

On the problem of technique, try out a friend's guitar or ask a more exprienced player to watch you.. that way you can determine whether or not its ur technique thats affecting your tone ( Muting when youre not required etc.. )

The last thing you should ever consider changing are your pickups..

Whenever you change pickups theres a gamble. Pickups will sound different through the various wood that the guitar comprises of. Similar pickups will also sound different through various amps.

One last piece of advice. Dont get any pedals till youre sure of what you want ( The tone you desire etc.. )

As for the string buzz a setup would do good but if it doesnt affect your tone while playing through the amp ( I.e the buzz cannot be heard when u plug in ) then it shouldnt affect you that much

Did i heard EMGs suck at clean??? They are much better at clean compared to many many much more pickups. LOL I have EMGs on my guitar lol... When distorted, many ppl prefer passive pickups and might sound more "FUZZY" depeends on the output... It's just your own opinion... I think EMGs are good... I got no problem using it... Nice clean tones... Good gain... and there's no feedback from amp when not playing... So yeah... I recommend EMGs if you have money... That's all what i think... I dun want some lady to say that i'm some idiot and EMGs suck and stuffs... Neither do i want my rep to decrease just because i said wat i felt... So yeah...

lmao. stupidest post ever.

Vox or line 6?

if i were you the answer would be a clear cut Vox. Reason being theyre versatile and great for hybrid stuff. Line 6 to me sounds extremely digital something which i cannot stand. Then again its ur choice.

The best advice I can give is ; just focus on your skills first since you're a "noob" according to yourself. Practice, practice and practice and have fun at the same time.

I'm a noob myself, since I've only played for half a year.. My guitar is an SX beginner package...

Don't buy first, relax bro.. Just save money first, then practice hard, and when you think its time you buy new stuff, then buy.

Just an advice from a noob myself, take it in if you want to. But its still your life, your problem, you can do whatever you want. Lawl.

:-) All the best.

thanks 4 the advise brother marduke..... i'm thinking bout to buy les paul stag, if i collect enought monnie........

hello bro

if u come to a fret buzz these are the possibility:
- ur neck bow backward which are too uptight u need to lessen more the truss rod
- u change strings which gauge r bigger than before
- the fret has worn-out
- the pickup height is too high so when the string vibrate it hit the PU

if u wanna check ur PU sounds like... use amps which have 12" speaker.. plug it in and jam on it... that's what ur guitar true nature

i have EMG active PU: EMG81 and EMG85, they suck at clean , but they can make u horny when u r using a distortion pedals :p i prefer passive PU it has a nice clean tone..

if u wanna buy a guitar buy it ... so u will learn something new :D
buy a 2nd product would be wise :)

LadyInTears =(

emgs suck at cleans.. your friends are stupid

I think LadyInTears dunno much about EMG. Not all EMG pickup are dirty, EMG-91 and EMG60A sound great at clean. Please do more reseach before you make such a statement by saying others ppl friends are stupid.

i think its just a general term la, EMG are well known for their distortion pups.

but anyway, erm i've experience in this line where my amp used to suck ass and changing it really helps then pedals comes in then pups.

in the end now. my pups are still the inf stock that comes with my 670fm, lol i know. -.- but got myself an Orange crush 15w. it was a big jump from the crappy starter mg marshall amp i used to play with. anyway the tone and stuff sound better with the new orange amp. but i still in need of pedals that help me get that vintage rock tone i want . gah. but anw. cheers!:D
