actually i kinda disagree with u drummer buah. if lets say a this drummer can't play any rudiments but he can lay down a killer groove, play musically, set up the band for key changes, play dynamically and lead his band. i gurantee you tons of bands will be after him.
rudiments are impt no doubt abt tht but it doesn't make or break a drummer i feel. i feel the way he interprets the time feel and his overall sound wld separate the ah guai's from the real girls baby. hehe
i'm a little curious bradder, why do u think rudiments are impt. i have my own reasons on why they are and wld like to hear urs.
Yo bro, rudiments are important, for every drummers, be it self-taught drummers, learned drummer or know-nuts-about-rudiments drummers cos we are using rudiments in our drumming. Rudiments have singles and doubles, be it triplets, paradiddle, six stroke, double-paradiddle etc, be it 4th 8th 16th 32nd notes, all using singles and doubles, and it goes the same with drumming in a band, all the songs that we're drumming to uses singles and doubles. Those self taught drummers who can hold the groove well are practising rudiments with their bands when they're jamming without knowing it, the most importang thing is practice more and perform more.
Personally for me, it's better to learn and practice rudiments cos it really helps us in drumming and grow..
just my personal opinion
