what does Singapore's independence mean to you?

personally, upon full-time employment, i'm really glad that this country has attain the first world status it is enjoying today. however, the are certain aspects of administration that could have been better. but as it stands, people are not ready to embrace a change in government- yet...

Singapore independence means...

We rule our own land?
Learnt from History that we didnt really have such a good life in the past and thankfully we got our godfather Lee! Now i get to play guitar in the comfort of this land w/o fear of bomb treats.. war.. or diesease or what other nonsense we see in the news.. those suffering can happened to our country if there isnt a good leader that lead us all the way..

My NS seems tougher than many others but that also made me realised that if my country needs 2 go into a war.. we singaporeans should be always ready to protect.. it have already gave me 22 years of healthy and peaceful growth! What more? Like my RSM always say.. if people come into ur house.. rob ur wealth.. rape ur women.. would you just run away? NO! you'll fight to your very last breath! :lol: ok he is a comical guy i must say..

LKY or otherwise, if that person has done a good job, then that's just it.

if you think your NS is tough- it was tougher a decade ago. there wasn't much welfare like there is now- especially pertaining to food & clothing issues.

I was born post-independence (1988), people tend to call my generation the ungrateful generation--always hear the 'we've eaten more salt than you've eaten rice line'. Honestly, I feel blessed that I've grown up in a country that's peaceful, stable, and ensured I got a good education, etc. what I hope would change is that there's less censorship, for one thing and that the culture will develop to support the arts more. other than that I think we're pretty alright here in Singapore. we're not too badly off. just need to look at the situation in Lebanon or Africa to see that.

I feel we have a beautiful country and a good government who takes care of us in almost all aspects of life. It could be a real thrill to see all genres of arts and music be fully blossomed in this tiny island of ours. Be it metal,rock,jazz,classical..somehow some cultures needs more people to enhance the prospects.
