What a silly thing to say! We're talking about his parents here, parents are the people who painstakingly brought him up and cared for him. You'd advise him to 'tolerate' his mom and then stay away from home later? hmm..

What do you mean by "silly"? yes, you are talking about his parents here, but unless you know the circumstances. What right have you got to judge if they really know what is best for his vocal ability or his singing passion? this kid could be the next Freddie mercury and you are bringing in this "parents bringing him up painstakingly" ?
Yes,i mean " tolerate" his mom's negative comments, did i ask him to quarrel with her? Man, you must be able to think first before you imagine i am trying to ask him to fall out with family.

My only tip is to tolerate lah, like what balloons said.. If you keep bringing it up, you'll only encourage arguments and we don't want that going on with our parents..

I went through the same thing for some time, and just run off for jams before my mom could say anything; I make it up to her by keeping in contact and telling her it's just a social activity and that I'll be back for dinner :P
Mom got used to it over time, and the time spent on jams / recordings after that paid off; she supports me now because she sees my efforts and time spent for good in the long run (from all the gigs and fan support that comes along), even if it's a hobby and not bringing in income. Her lack of support has turned to support simply because I've made her proud.

Just do what you love as long as it doesn't hurt anyone in the process.. Don't try talking this out if you've already tried and she still insists on seeing no light at the end of the tunnel. You just have to prove yourself, and to do that you have to compromise and take chances to do so.

ps. You could post your recording in the All About Singing section as well, there are postees out there who give honest vocal critiques and vocal advice to help you along the way. :)

I must say I totally agree, an example of such a circumstance would be Judas Priest's K.K. Downing. His parents still refuse to talk to him.

no need to worry bro..i cant sing as well lah..unless im in the KTV having lots of booze then i can sing very well..can even hit the very high notes .....

LOL...you are pulling our legs right??dont tell me that you started this thread for this??..haha

Dude, find your father, he's the best person at home who understands guy's feelings. For my Dad at least.

My Mum actually just kept quiet bout me doing music and stuffs, but it was my Dad who give me the green light. Why? Because he feel every guy must know how to play music...

So he insisted on me hitting the drums. Bleh..I suck at drums, so I chose Vocal instead and he too, agreed..lol

My basic opinion is that Mum tend to understand daughters and Dad tend to understand their son better. So ask your Dad for opinion rather than your Mum.

...And my bird(A canary, not some dirty jokes intended) sings better.. :)
