dan ah.... where's is your favourite ramen joint?

I love this thread. Suddenly got so many ramen joints I've not been before and I thought I had it all covered. damn.....

Ramen portion? Try the extra serving at Tampopo. if you can finish that portion, I say you hero...

I had upsized ramen at Ken's. I down it with can of beer. I won't do it again.

Oh and Santouka is at Central, 2nd floor behind Grains restaurant.

i tried some from shinchan menya down at robertson quay, their gyoza is great too. Ramen portion enough to feel bloated, like the slightly tough tasting ramen.

theres another near peninsular(opposite penin, at the korner of the hotel), kadoman, one of the "i cant remember whats the name" ramen with nice seseme soup base with colours looking mildly like laksa, i like too

heh, lets have a ramen session soon!

Shinchan menya i must go check out.

Kadoman this one i head quite attitude problem, thats why I've not been there yet.

Lets have a RAMEN SESSION mrmisse style!

Noodle house Ken, we whack at the one and only smoking table and drink plenty of cold sake!

Edder, unfortunately I'm bad at taking down names of the ramen joints, doh! I quite like the one at Cuppage that's right next to Ah Meng's cafe. It's old school and been around forever, but pretty tasty.

I don't mind the one at the basement of Liang Court where Medi-ya is - the restaurant itself, not the food stall.

I wasn't impressed by the one at Gallery hotel or the one where Central is, in which the concentration of sodium was so intense I was surprised the frickin egg wasn't floating. The one on the ground floor of Great World next to the Kenny Rogers is rubbish too.

In fact i'm going to research all the names thrown around in this thread...man, I've got some inspiration going now!!

Japanese food is amazing, whether street stuff or top end fine dining! I know some restaurants where you'd shed tears over the aburi sushi and chef's creations (and also when you see the bill as well), but man, once in a while you just gotta shell out for that expense and forget everything else!

Noodle House Ken! my all time favourite!

It used to be Tanpopo and now its Ichibantei. Tanpopo is now on the ground floor very visible.

Miharu! I wasn't too impressed too till I tried their Tonkotsu Shio broth. Never did like their miso based though that seems to be the popular one there.

or the one where Central is, in which the concentration of sodium was so intense I was surprised the frickin egg wasn't floating.
There are 3 at Central.
2nd floor is Santouka, salty yes. But IMHO the tonkotsu broth is to die for and that so called limited to 60 plates a day braised pork cheek thats available all day.

3rd floor there's Marutama and Tomton(which is also Tanpopo)
Marutama I like their nut based broth, Akaramen and their stewed egg if they're consistant.
Tomton which is Tanpopo, I find OK only. But their Kurobuta Tonkatsu is teh secks!

The one on the ground floor of Great World next to the Kenny Rogers is rubbish too.
Never tried this one and will avoid. ;)

done! hahaha... I love ramen... its a disease.

Damn right you are! I don't have the guts to go omikase anytime soon... wait till I sell my XXXXXth pedal.

Edder...best post ever!!!

Thanks so much for the breakdown. The one i tried at central was indeed Santouka......it was like drinking from the dead sea. I will give their tonkotsu broth a try though...and definitely endeavour to try the other recommendations from the other places! Nut broth? Mmmmm...sounds so good already. For Miharu to be fair I only went twice, both times I tried the miso broth - it was alright, but nothing to write home about. I will pop by for the shio broth. BTW the other more upmarket Japanese restaurants in Gallery are really not worth your money. Don't bother.

For omakase that is actually affordable (in the scheme of things, considering that some restaurants' omakase can set you back $300 per person easy with sake), I would definitely recommend Tomo at Marina Square. It's excellent for the price and you can choose the price range you're comfortable with ($80 to $150 per pax)...I've not been disappointed there. Always sit at the sushi counter, chat with and get to know the chef a bit, buy him a beer or a sake if you appreciate his work, and more often than not you'll find yourself being plied with complimentary dishes and sometimes very welcome discounts off the bill.

It's all personal taste, but I much prefer high end Japanese to French or any other form of haute cusine.

Snuff - thanks for the men-tei recommendation!! Shenton however is just a bit too far from my work place and I can imagine the crazy lunch crowds...but I have to say that looks way good!

Hey what was this thread again?

Ken's upsize is nothing compare to the carbo-laden serving at tampopo...

Cool. will check out Santouka!

I think this thread is about "which ramen stall gotch true-bypass?."

zomfg this is the best thread ever!

i've tried both hiyashi and miso ramen at men-tei. if i'm not mistaken its at the basement of hong leong building. i will never ever try the hiyashi (cold) again... it feels like the chef dumped cold raw veggies onto your uncooked noodles dammit!!! the miso broth tastes thick and fragrant, but cannot beat santouka (my no 1) or even tampopo (2).

pork cheeks FTW!

btw, i just had dinner at fish mart sakuraya at south buona vista shopping centre. omg the swordfish sashimi is so nice fat n freaking juicy!!!! very affordable and they don't have service charge! :D

yeah snuff, thats the one I've been wanting to try!

No chance leh!

here's one of my DIY Modulated True Bypass Ramen.
