Mixed Martial Art

The referee has stopped the bout in Round 1 at 0:11 seconds declaring the winner by disqualification from an eye gouge, not Bruce Lee!!!!

Wes Sims was feeded to Lashley... they have to build Lashley up as a powerhouse.. if not they would have just put Lashley in with some other lesser guys.. at least that's how i feel it was. :)

off the current topic...what are the cheaper places in Singapore that teach MMA/ Muay Thai etc....few buddies recommended Fightworks...any other options in the west??

Bluepowder power to you on your intent.

Reminds me of folks who wanted to pick up the sport, the moment they hear you could get your noses broken, they back down. I remember training Muay Thai till the nerves on my shins were dead, kicking banana tree trunks. Dislocating my joints in BJJ, heck even severe concussions after sparring. This wasn't even competition yet, the worse injury I got whilst competing were broken ribs& fractured skull. Welcome to Vale Tudo.

Hope you get yourself fit Blue brutha for it will come in handy especially during hard sessions.

Honestly speaking in Singapore the muay thai/BJJ lessons are not to the extent of Vale Tudo or in other countries in Thailand. Singaporeans tend to take Muay Thai more for self defense but mostly for fitness. Very few actually want to compete. Anyway bluepowder, you can try Evolve MMA although the rates won't be any cheaper than Fightworks. I would love to train there but the prices are more for working adults or rich kids.

I recognize your points brutha, was just stating my experience. Contact sports, you will get bruised/injured along the way, self-defense or for competitive reason.

Fitness is important to help one recuperate or heal from a training session.

Having your shin's nerves deaden is a pre-requisite in Muay Thai - traditionally- you will use them even in self-defense. Personally, for me if one takes up a martial artform, though one doesn't have to compete nonetheless you gotta respect the art. If anyone wants to take up a martial artform for fitness, go for boxercise. The worse that can happen is your ligaments might get strained.

There tons of McDojos that are sprouting up, best way is to attend a trial or pop-in & observe. If it looks too much like a scene from Never Back Down, it's time to back away.

I would suggest Blue Powder to walk in to any gyms he might consider joining and ask for trial, after the trial, then sit down and think it through. If price is really a factor for you, then you might seriously need to think bout it. Would you want to pay x amount for unlimited classes and the gym is open daily from 6.30am to 10.30pm or y amount for like "unlimited" classes but the gym is only opened like 3 to 4 hours a day on weekdays?

The gym i come from will always be criticize for the higher than usual fee that they charged but me having trained there for 14 months now know that it's worth every single cent of it once you break it down. End of the day, it's up to the individuals who are training. I'm no rich kid and i don't earn much either. I just happen to chance upon this gym, went for a trial and like it, which is why i joined it.

So my advice will be, go for trial, try it out and then you'll know for yourself whether to join or to look for other gyms. :)

I'm currently training Muay Thai and Bjj @ BXG but it's in the east thou.

PM me if you need more info. I'm not making any commission or affiliate. I'm just a happy trainee of the gym and would like to share my exprience for those who is interested.

Best..

Wow, that's cool. I've always thought about what if Singapore had their own "PRIDE" kinda thing, and it might just get into effect. Hopefully we sign Fedor. HAHA

At one time, all of the world's greatest sporting events were held beneath the open sky, in amphitheaters of stone, fields of grass, or tracks of beaten earth. In modern times that has often changed, and with the advent of closed stadiums, sports domes, and air conditioning, many sports have moved indoors entirely.

At UFC 112, the UFC and their partners, Flash, are going to bring us something special: an open-air fighting contest that promises to be the greatest outdoor display of martial prowess in sports since medieval times. Indeed, you would have to turn the clock back hundreds of years to the age of chivalry to find a fighting event on a similar scale, when French knights contesting with each other on the jousting fields coined the word "tournament" itself.

Why is this event being built up to such an extent? For starters, it is the UFC's first outdoor event, but more than that, it is being held in a custom-built stadium that is being constructed in a country, Abu Dhabi, that is not exactly known for understatement.

Lorenzo Fertitta, who co-owns the UFC with his brother Frank, spoke to the Telegraph to discuss the organizations plans for UFC 112.

"The facility that is going to be constructed at Ferrari World on Yas Island going to be built just for this event," said Fertitta. "It is going to be incredible. Out partners Flash are constructing the whole thing like they have done for all the concerts and other events they have put on. Flash already have a reputation in the region for putting on the best events in the Middle East, and the plans they showed me for the facility were fantastic. This is the first arena we've ever gone to which has been designed specifically to host a UFC event. There won't be a bad sightline from any seat. It will be something to see and a great occasion to be part of. We've never gone outside before but we are excited to do this. I was born and raised in Las Vegas. When I was very young I was lucky enough to be able to go to some of the best boxing cards in the historic open air arena in the parking lot at Caesars Palace."

Abu Dhabi is a cultural and economic center in the Middle East, and has been closely allied with the West for decades. It also has a long history of enthusiasm for the martial arts, and has organized the ADCC international submission grappling competitions since the 1990s. For UFC 112, the UFC is assembling a fight card that rivals anything the organization has put on in the past, with no less than two title defenses by champions Anderson Silva and B.J. Penn.

"Some of the media here who are already familiar with the sport said to me this card is already as good as UFC 100," Fertitta stated. "We've only announced three fights but that's our intention: we wanted to bring a super-card to the region. And we have delved. The two world title fights are very exciting fights, and we've wanted to see Renzo Gracie in the UFC for a very long time. Gracie v Hughes is a dream fight by itself, and we have two of the best pound for pound fighters in the world defending their belts."
