Mixed Martial Art

wow, wow all I can say is wow, today straits time in sports section they do a full coverage of MMA! This has never happened in my 21 years of reading that old paper, this is more surprising than finding a snake in a 25th storey floor. I must say ever since the manny cotto bout, fight arts has never been the same again in Singapore, all I can say is I hope this keeps going and I can finally see a full page coverage of my fav fighter in local newspaper soon, the last emperor!

MMA has even appeared on Singapore TV before, as part of a show where Melody Chen went to learn it, but I think the government limits it because they deem it as too violent. So we're forced to watch table tennis instead. And kimura, great post. I don't know if you guys have seen this before:

The fall out of talks between Fedor & the UFC was more than just about the Benjamins, it was also about 'timing' or as the suits in MMA would call 'em, schedule.

I take my hats/gloves.rashguards off to Fedor because he goes onto the mat& does his job without much antics.

I like him because he is vulnerable, as one Japanese opponent showed, he can be beaten. Only thing, on that night Fedor was nearly beaten, he somehow managed to recover quick enough ( I mean really really fast ) wobbly legs & all, to turn that fight around.

Because of his vulnerability, he becomes more 'real', a more acceptable idol ( for lack of a better word ).

Brock Lesnar is probably gonna be out for the rest of 2010 due to his illness etc so the UFC will instead have an interim champion in the heavyweight division.

The next big fight is Vitor Belfort vs Anderson Silva, that trust me, would be a huge fight.

For those of you who watch the sport & think wow that's cool, I wanna do that....

try the basic fitness/nutrition regime these athletes go through - even those who ain't fighting professionals -.If you can survive that for a couple of years, then you start on the 'cool' part.

Could you recommend some good exercise routines to try for MMA? I do a lot of weight training(heavy weight, less reps), but I don't know any MMA workouts.

Hey DC brutha, totally missed your query.Sorry about that.

Below are just some of the drills I do off-season which help me stay within the fit-to-fight zone:

Simple track workout:
Perform 12 Burpees
Immediately sprint 100 meters
Perform 10 Plyometric Pushups (Handclap Pushups)
Jog back to the starting line ( this is the active rest )
Repeat 10times.

Below is my routine,in the morn when I wake up& evening/night.

Set A
Regular PushUps - 20secs ( as many as you can )
Wide Arm PushUps - 20secs ( as many as you can )
Dips ( Make sure you're on your heels ) - 20 secs ( as many as you can )

Set B
VUps - 20 secs ( as many as you can )
Left Oblique Crunch - 20secs ( as many as you can )
Right Oblique Crunch - 20secs ( as many as you can )

Set C
Prisoner Squats - 20secs ( as many as you can )
Calf Raises - 20secs ( as many as you can )
Lunges - 20secs ( as many as you can )

Set D
Burpees - 20secs ( as many as you can )
Jumping Jacks - 20secs ( as many as you can )
Tuck Jumps - 20secs ( as many as you can )

Set E ( Active rest )
Plank - 30 secs
Wall Sit - 30secs

Do the sets one after another 3 times. for a total of 15minutes.

^Current Strikeforce Middleweight? Sadly I don't watch anything other than UFC. It's not that I don't want to, I can barely keep up with UFC fight night and events as it is. But then again, you can never get too much of MMA, so what I said was probably a bullshit reason.

gotta love the ending

btw anyone knows who is gerard mousasi? i think he is damn bloody good.

GeGard Mousasi. The Dreamcatcher.Indeed.One of the best LHW, was supposed to compete at the Submissions Wrestling World Championship together with Fedor byt pulled out. Hence the exhibition match between them recently.

Won the European Fighter of the Year category at last year's World MMA awards.

Might as well call it UFC awards if not for the few names and matches by non Zuffa promotions. And the Imada submission is INSANE.

UFC's like the Microsoft of the MMA world ( for now ).Abu Dhabi - the govt/corporation - has bought a 10% stake in Zuffa.

Shoot&Sprawl brutha..
there are online vids of Fedor& Mousasi sparring.

Yes brutha DC, was in shock when I read it sometime back, was a hot discussion topic on loads of MMA forums.

Sad in a way..
