i do agree that the lighting in the studio for those shows is disgustingly bright and clinical. watch an episode of american idol on youtube, then watch an episode of singapore idol.

notice how in american idol, the camera gives a larger, more wholistic look. it implies a larger crowd and stage. in comparison, singaporean cameraman like to focus on the upper torso and stay there, maybe being too used to filming game shows.
look at the warmth of the lights. american idol lights are red-hued and warm, give you this flattering, comfortable feel. singaporean idol lights are blue, sharp and cold- they're clinical and point out every pimple and crease.
even though taufik is playing in front of a much larger crowd than blake, singapore idol manages to make it look like it's the other way around.
watch how smooth the camera is on american idol, and how jerky it is on singapore idol.
it's a joke lah.
