Live Performances: Your Setup WOES!!!

For those of you who have played with a Fender Jaguar, you'd probably know that the pickups can be switched off via the switches at the bottom. And that's exactly what happened during a few gigs which I either:

1) Forgot that the pickups were toggled off prior to the performance and the first moment when the guitar comes in *STRUCK THE CHORD/NOTES.....but.....no sound

2) Accidentally hit on the toggle switch during some hyper moments and disengaged the pickup...damn embaressing (but usually just act busy and thrash around the controls, etc and hope the audience gets distracted by it. Heh)

Maybe I should do a 'Kurt Cobain' and tape up my controls with duct tape *LOL*

There are also times when my semi-faulty beat-up Metal Zone caused crackles and volume drops and I had to use my leg to kick the pedal around to get the sound back.

Oh, how can I forget the ultimate gag: I was using my wireless system, so happily running around until I tripped on my bassist's cable and his bass suddenly disappeared from the mix  Wau lau...and this was during the first Rock On Singapore gig lor...*slaps forehead*

i like the idea of this thread. It will save life! Or at least a tone :D

Recently i went for a day time outdoor gig. I've encountered my worse nightmare.

Among my pedals, there are a few i'll never wanna replace the led to super bright ones as they are some very unique collections. This need to preserve hit me straight on. Those red faint led didnt get bright enough on the gig day!

So i was playing as usual..
*step pedal*
"wtf, it sounds weird.. sounds like i never turn it on?"
*step pedal again*
"hmz it sounds worse now!"
*bend down close to board, use hand press pedal*
"ah.. nb..."

Till date, i've no idea on how to solve this problem.. Maybe no daytime gig? haahaa...

Lets share some experiences when it comes to setting up for that big gig... some boo boo you made... some oversight you had... a misplaced wire... a battery-less pedal... an amp that wasn't turned on.... vol knob on guitar off... you know... the silliness of it all.

Lemme tell you something... I once had an experience where I had everything set up nicely. Then, when it came to the crunch, I had no sound. I checked everything, and guess what? The amp was on standby. That bloody light I saw was a standby light... Dammit...:(

The worse thing was, I set that event up where the audience surrounds the guitarist 360 deg. and there's nothing on stage EXCEPT the guitarist. No band. Just back up music...

It turned the tables on me...

I used to play the bass. There was one particular gig back in 2000, when i "broke" my E string only 20 secs into the set! thank God i could get another bass in time.

Funniest moment was the first time I saw someone ran from behind me and jumped from the stage, straight into the moshpit and best thing is he didn't even fall. i think he was bodysurfing for quite a while before they let him down. haha. made me wanna put down my bass and jump in too. haha.

Those were the days.. :)

I once had to do a gig (few weeks ago) with a terrible sound company doing the sound.

Half their stuff was improper and not working. So my Vox AD30 got called into action. Not all of us know, but the AD30 has been given the poorest speaker of the AD**VT line-up. Low power handling as well as sub-standard tone.

I blew the speaker... but at least now I have a excuse to pick up a new speaker for it.

Hey... it is a setup woe...

Oh and did you hear the one about the volume pedal....

Hmm.

I also had a couple of personal and equipment issues,

1. with my spring-loaded Crybaby 95Q. I was hunting down the source of my poor tone when I realised one of my patch cables was stuck between the foot-pedal and the main body of the wah.

2. faulty patch cable. Jiggle here, jiggle there, still CMI. In the end had to completely disengage my wah pedal due to my lack of fore-sight to bring an extra patch.

3. forgot to plug in to the amp. turned everything on, check this check that (how come no sound????). Then my drummer pointed out that my amp seemed to have no cable leading into it. Dumb.
