Live Performances: Your Setup WOES!!!

On my 10,000th post, I'd like to .... post a new THREAD!

We all get gear, we all play with gear and we all use gear...

But the key thing is using the gear right?

So...

Lets share some experiences when it comes to setting up for that big gig... some boo boo you made... some oversight you had... a misplaced wire... a battery-less pedal... an amp that wasn't turned on.... vol knob on guitar off... you know... the silliness of it all.

And yes, this is so others can learn to watch out of some of the less obvious mistakes...

Here's mine.

Setup pedalboard. Plug in to amp. Plug guitar to board. Check amp. Check board. Turn on board. Turn on amp. Play. Shrill shrieky sound. Like WTH? Tweak amp... set treble on amp to like 9 oclock (?!) and then proceed to play... keep wondering why the hell is my tone so compressed, so thin and shrilly whether with dirt or clean.

Check all pedals settings.

Check amp again.

Check cables.

Check guitar.

#$%?@!

Out of frustration, finally check the wah.

Bloody wah pedal.

Lesson Learnt: Wah pedal should have LED. Or at least, I should have stepped on it 1st to make sure its OFFFFFFFFF.

hahaha.

i pretty much went through the same check procedures before discovering my boo-boo.

plug guitar into board. board into amp. switch on board. everything's good to go. let down the vol pedal.....eh no sound

counter check. amp is on. tubes are cooking.

forgot to switch on standby switch.

oops.......

Haha there was once, just right before the gig, plug guitar into board, then into amp. Stepped on Boss DD3, the LED was soooo dim, and I had to start the gig already. Was using batteries back then, so yeah.. Was praying throughout my set that the battery would have enough power to last me through the gig!

wtf?? 10000post!? wow.. maybe u shud be a mod coz ure always here.
great thread. no gig yet. will definitely learn from this.

mine was..

Plugged in everything.. the sound was super duper muddy and trebleless, I thought it was the amp so I turned up the treble and I couldnt get the sound right. So went thru checking all the pedals again. everything was fine.

The problem was... my tone knob. was down to zero. very dumb but yes things happen.

No no.... I'm very biased. I would make for a bad mod in SOFT's context.

And you're welcome. So much talk about gear, we need to talk about how to use it too... and using it comes with troubleshooting.

can i start a "Let shredcow be mod" poll!

hehe, nothing too serious. Its a good thing i play drone, noise with loud hiss and squeal

couple of time just forget powerstrip, ds lite(need it as main instrument), never upload right patches into magicstomp etc

lucky everything plug in, got sound, can pump up volume, its ok go from there. Loud volume numb senses, after a while, no one will realise if theres anything wrong as long

1) you look intense
2) you wacked the instrument and look intense
3) stare into blank space and look intense
4) make your attire look intense
5) bend down, turn knobs on pedal, and still look intense

1) plug in "everything". No sound, buzz, no sound. Walk around. Check amp settings etc etc.
Never plug cable into guitar/amp

2) Plug in "everything", pedal no power. Check check check, never plug in power supply to pedal.

3) Plug in "everything", pedal got power and all. Checked all cables and jacks. But didn't on the amp.

Oh my, genius!:D

GUESS WHATS MINE!

ever used a tu-2?

you know when you put the pedal on the normal output it kills your sound right and when you put on bybass everybody can hear you tuning

i have a habit off leaving my tu-2 on bypass mode cos i like the indicators to flash with all that green/red colour shit when im playing (gives me mojo)

HOWEVER sometimes i plug in to the wrong output and mute the sound and the rest is history

happened at one gig and many jamming sessions hahahaha

ps. veek youre supposed to be SLEEPING!

Mine was the same. The wah pedal was on and made me turn all de other knobs of my pedals to readjust though still didnt work of course. And had to reset everything again.
However now, i aint using the wah any longer.

Another was jumping on a particular riff n suddenly, blanko. No sound at all. Check all the power supply, amp, volume knob only to discover i actually stepped on de guitar jack while landing hence, pulling it off.

Hehe.. Mine was dumb.. Was using a Zoom G2.1U back then..
The song had an explosive beginning, so the entire band was supposed to jump when it started..
Well, my Zoom was behind me, and the expression pedal was set to control Volume..
Yeap.. You guessed it! I jumped and stepped on the Zoom behind me by accident..
Then got no sound.. Haha.. I was lucky that the small unit didnt fly off or anything..
Tough pedal man.. Built like a brick!

that was some DUMB shitt man. maybe you'd like to tell us what happened that time with your 'in' and 'out' jacks? AHAHA

Shut up dude.. Haha.. That one is a lesson for me to learn so that I don't repeat the process when gigging.. Lol!

i just played recently. and my volume got killed for the first song.

cos the jack at the last pedal was slightly loose

urgh!

Oh yeah, niteblade - that is cool way to get frustrated! I got that before... don't even talk about performance, even @ home when I want to record, and there's no output...

for me happened in Rainbow Battle of the bands 1987 semi finals.

Guitar cable not working properly ... intermitant "coughing of guitar" during the two songs ...

was newbie at that time - kena booed by audience (sial lah)
