Lets talk about pedal mods

There are tubescreamer mods out there to convert them to to TS808. (or in the case of TS7, TS808 with a HOT switch)

Slightly out of topic: Hmm, the only thing I wish my modded TS7 (thanks randolf) would also have at the moment, is simply more gain in hot mode. =P

ive got dd-3,mt-2,ds-1,ce-2 modded
i love the analog sound of the dd-3,
i like the warm mild dist of ds-1
and i like the crunch on mt-2
i still havent really figured out the ce-2 yet,,

:D

i've been waiting for this thread whitestrat.. haha...
can a dd3 sound analog with just a mod? gotta hear for myself...

theres a super highly acclaimed keely 'phat' mod BD-2 that i'm saving to get and also a monte allums H20 mod that doesnt sound too bad either. both mods make the bd-2 more transparent. :)

I HEARD there's a simple ds1 mod where you remove just TWO caps and you get more of an overdriven gain thingy, instead of raspy gain thingies..

i've tried the beez mod for mt-2..
seriously out of this world!
i never liked the 'thin' sound coming from an mt-2, but his mod was superbly done..
it can do high-gain, a thick creamy overdrive to a fat punchy distortion..
wah.. almost bought it.. but i ended up splurging my cash on a different pedal.. :D
i wonder how much does a 'mod' cost?

Honestly, the reason I'm asking, is because I've never used modded pedals myself. Never felt the need to. I always tailored my sound round what I could use that's available. Fortunately for me, I'm at the stage where I make enough to pretty much afford any pedal I want. So, I don't bother searching for cheaper alternatives. I seehear the MI Tubezone pedal and like it, I just buy. But then again, I might be missing something else here...

Just wanted to see what other options there could be out there...

There are keeley mod websites that tell u wat values does Keeley change for the ds-1..I duno how true it is but i dont think its fake either..

I wanted to post something of great intelligence along the lines of being |33+ but I refrain from doing do.

haha thats good for you then whitestrat..
actually, modded pedals arent totally cheapo also... one mod's like 70+? if u go to randolf or beez, i think its about the average...

Locally speaking, a DS-1 at $85 with a $70 mod is still $155. But a Tubezone Overdrive is $299. Twice the price!!! 8O I think mods might still be more affordable... heh.

But why do people do mods? Is the original sound not good enough?

whitestrat... in my most honest opinion and also my personal preference, a modded DS1 no matter what cannot be compared to the MI Tubezone. Not apple to apple.

I find that some people have the wrong concept of modding.

If you have a pedal you don't like, don't mod it. You probably don't like the inherent tone to begin with.

If you have a pedal you like but it seems to be lacking a bit on gain/bass/mids/treble, that may be a candidate for modding. BUT - only mod with the right amp and guitar equipment in mind. DON'T mod gain pedals based on the idea that the gain pedals will sound the same with different amp and guitar equipment. They typically don't.

If you haven't settled on a playing technique, don't mod. Your playing makes a difference to your tone.
