Lacking of local bassist..true or false?

Many people say that there are many local bassist that havent been found yet.
(Refering to bassist that is nt in a band)

If that is true, why is that happening?

is it because they never expose themselves? or are they nt interested in looking for a band to play?

If there are many bassist ard, why is there such a big percentage of band looking for bassist?

which are the bands looking for bassits?

Are we looking from just the forum here looking for band members or the tiny scene we have locally, other than the circle in forum here

alot of it..go ask ard.. go and try to form ur own band and find a bassist for urself..can u find it easily?

Further more, it is not umcommon for bands to have more than 1 guitarist, while most bands only have 1 bassist or come to worse, a key bassist.

If both are a plenty, maybe guitarists are a weird bunch eh? Always trying to form bands while bassist are closet players?

maybe if guitarists didn't come a dime a dozen (thus increasing the ratio of band-ready musicians : band ready bass players), there might be more bass players going around?

instead of looking at it as "too little bassists", maybe it could be "too many people trying to form a band"?

well, sooner or later, some guitarist will give his strings up for four, and we'll welcome him into the fold -)

I don't think there's anything wrong with keyboard bass... there are so many things you can do on either platform

keyboard bass.... if you have the right effects, it can be good. the band keane utilises that without a bassist.

but somehow, without bassist also, the stage looks pretty empty dont ya think? like white stripes performing in a huge huge stage...

There's nothing wrong with keyboard bass. The sound is almost the same, but making a keybordist do insane basslines will really impede him from doing other things you would want a keybordist for.

Unless you really got a keybordist because you can't find a bassist... -_-"

how about split keyboards. if you keyboardist is pro enough, he/she can do split keys, lower half play bass upper half play accompaniment/solo. I know it can be done. learning how to do it now, no where near mastering it. damn hard man. both hands have to have minds of their own.

i have been know to "cross the line" and session as a bassist for certain bands ...

as a showman, I find I can relate better playing guitar and when I do play bass for these gigs, I tend to play them like I play guitar...

Bass is heavy, big and bulky, and troublesome to carry around. Guitars are lighter, keyboardists hardly have to lug their keyboard around, drummers just bring sticks or snare for gigs, singers just bring themselves and lyrics.

But definitely there are good bassists around, just a matter of whether they have the time for pracs and gigs.

I would beg to differ on the poin that keybordist hardly have to lug their keyboards around though. I really admire them for how they can carry their >6kg mammoths on their backs without complaining. And we got people who're complain that <5kg bass is heavy...

I beg to differ on the drummers just bring sticks part.

The amount of stuff I carry for jamming and gigs (cymbals, stands, pedals, snare) is easily twice the weight the bass. I get stares when I board buses or MRT because of the amount of stuff I carry lol. But I ain't complaining though :D

How to carry all the cymbals, stands, pedals, snare, etc on BUSES or MRT????

How to bring all the gear on board before the mrt door closes??

Can be done. Taking the MRT is easy, even though the changing of train can be quite a bitch when carrying all that stuff. I sometimes have MRT staff asking to check my cymbal bags and all though. Would any terrorist carry so many bulky bags if they want to bomb up a place? lol. Well, the staff has to do their job I guess.

The tricky one is to take buses. Have to squeeze like siao (and have passengers staring at me like I'm some kinda alien) when boarding the bus lol. Have to choose to take buses with the spacious area for standing/wheelchairs so I can have some space to put the stuff down and stand.

What to do? No car and cannot afford to always take a cab what lol.
