Joe Satriani Sues Coldplay..

An even more blatant copycat was exposed in the art world...

An Ottawa painter at the centre of an international art controversy says she's been "devastated" by threats and accusations over the originality of her work.

Sheryl Luxenburg, an award-winning artist recognized for her startling, lifelike watercolours, said she made an "innocent mistake" when she entered a prestigious art competition in the United States last year with a painting based on another artists' photographs.

Earlier this year, the venerable New York-based American Watercolor Society awarded Luxenburg its gold medal. She won $4,000 in prize money and her work, Impermanence, was included in an exhibition that is touring the U.S. through 2009.

The society has since withdrawn the award and removed her painting from exhibition pending an investigation into allegations that she broke competition rules by entering a work that was not totally original. The Society of Canadian Artists, which gave her awards in 2006, 2007 and 2008, has also removed all Luxenburg's paintings from its website until the matter has been resolved.

Seriously, I think Coldplay did try to copy Satriani.

"Instead of being too obvious with the guitar, lets turn it into a more pop-ish sound.. Anyway how many people do you think will recognise the difference? Look at the amount of pop-crazy people out there, probably 3% have only heard of Joe Satriani" (my opinion on what coldplay might have thought, its just some wild imagination, don't get too worked up.)

Its a good thing u added that last part, or I would have gotten worked up. What do you take coldplay for, some pathetic band that cant come up with their own good stuff? Open ur ears and listen to all their stuff not just the new ones playing on the radio, they are quite brilliant.

I love joe sat and If I Could Fly is my all time favourite song by him. But I think it is all a coincidence, and at the very most one of the coldplay members could have heard this song a looong time ago and unknowingly used its general riff as an influence. I am definitely sure they wouldnt intentionally take the song and change it to make it theirs, that would be the most ridiculous thing a band of coldplay's calibre could do.

Not like its such an uncommon and difficult progression some more. joe should take a chill pill and satch boogie!

never really liked coldplay, only songs like yellow sounded good to me. But really, i think sueing them is the only real option here. Just imagine, someone like Satriani, i guess he would have been honored to have coldplay credit the song to him, or invite him to play with them, then it would have been viva la vida - coldplay ft Joe satriani - same style, added pretty good lyrics and dreamy voice with an awesome guitar that complements his voice.

but then coldplay just had to go for the grab and do that?

we cant be sure though whether coldplay DID have a stroke of similar genius and unknowingly produced it, then AFTER realised joe's song was similar. Or maybe not, only coldplay and their producers would know that.

but it's scary AND unfair if bands are brought to trial just because they happened to think of the same tune and the same idea. There are billions of people in this world and who can say that people can't have the exact same train of thought? I mean, while we credit Charles Darwin for evolution, did you know at the exact same time, across the world, a theorist in the dutch east indies (indonesia) also came up with a similar theory? And if Darwin continued on his dabbling that dude (sorry i forgot his name) would have been credited as the founder of evolution theory? Of course I felt he did the right thing, crediting the other fellow as a co-founder of evolution theory, although they developed it seperately.

what i'm saying is, if i wrote a song, with a nice and simple, so distinct melody,a nd someone else somewhere else write, or has written such a song, and i end up getting sued. It kind of sucks too doesn't it?

:???:

:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

i just realised theres a limit to the number of smileys you can put. i just wanted to make the 10 characters ruling haha

I do admit the songs do sound similiar. If Coldplay was really guilty of plagiarizing, it would be a huge disgrace for the entire music industry; if one of the biggest names resort to such unscrupulous measures for extra revenue, where's the sincerity and expressiveness of music?

They should just meet in court. And break out into a musical with a mashed rendition of the song and settle the issue once and for all.

They can work together and call themselves Joe's Bo-pe-lay (it means "balls" for the non-malay folks)
