Jamming CCA in Poly - what do you guys do?

Hi,

Just wondering if you guys here from the various polys in Singapore have joined Jamming as a CCA in poly. I'm curious as to what you guys do, what are the facilities you have (jamming studios, amps, drums?), what kind of funding is provided and any events or activities you all do and organise?

I want to find out because sadly, NP does not have Jamming CCA and my friend and I are planning to start one in NP so I would like to have your input so we can send the proposal in.

Thanks!

in RP, we got an Interest Group call Jamming Arena but I'm not in it so I can't tell you much. But it definitely is more than just jamming. Perhaps like replacing guitar parts all those thing?

yeah in RP we have that cca, well it provides a place for jamming, its also a recording studio btw. they also hire external teachers to teach certain instruments and to advise the bands jamming there, er and they have lots of equipment, like if i'm not wrong alot of guitars, basses, a few spare amps, 2 drum sets, effect pedals for guitars, keyboards and spare keyboards and usually ja is there for school events both inside and outside of school, and sometimes the bands they actually go out on their own to competitions and everything , hope this helps though

oh fck. sp got no music scene one ah?

np does support local bands and they have quite a few gigs held there too if im not wrong

*prays that i get in np mass com instead of sp*

NP year 1 going on year 2 too :)

Theres song composing club in NP, and theres jamming equipment.

Only can jam after 5 though and you can't play too loud.
Mostly the members appreciate mandopop, so maybe you can start an alternative music club of some sort :D

Singapore Poly has 2 jamming studios if I am right? and theres actually a stage with mixers and all that, where you can bring ur own equipment and just jam there.

I don't know about the music scene in SP, but skaters are a-plenty ;)

yea most are into mandopop, heck my whole class except one dude is into mandopop. which is damn sad, but by that friend is pretty cool. luckily got one dude not into mandopop. *wow thats a mouthful.

we have 2 jamming studios but i think the equipments there arent that gd thats what i heard from my friend. i think the stage you are referring to is for the drama club or some drama/stage course, so we cannot anyhow jam there.

the only thing that comes close to local music scene is Dong from bad obsession, but he maintains a low profile in school.

ooh +1 to skaters a-plenty

i just love skating at sp.

very lepak one. unlike town hahaha

TP have this thing call Music Vox for bands! and they even hold gig for those music vox bands. sound cool yaah

I shall sidetrack a little.

My current school has 2 music rooms and each has 4 jamming studios in it. Rad, huh? That makes 8 in all. However, normally, we just jam in the main music room due to spaciousness. Everything is provided. Peavey bass amps, Yamaha, Marshall and Ibanez guitar amps, (I-forgot-what-brand) drumkit and so on. Ye, even the instruments.

We even have an Extra-Curriculum Activity where those who joined would be guided by 2 teachers who know their instruments pretty well. They'd get the chance to perform in school during special occasions such as International Day and Australian Day as such.

I never really skated at Singapore Poly before. Though I remember being jeered at while (trying to) play guitar there.

Don't we just love Singapore?

YAY! i m in NP i hope you can create that CCA!! and when you do, please put up flyers or something.. im from ECE btw.. im interested to join!

wow! thanks for the replies and support. i'm in year 1 business...thinking of setting up the cca soon. maybe next sem we'll get it approved.

yeah NP does support local music but there's no jamming cca. and song composing club isn't exactly what i call jamming. i went for 1 meeting but they don't do much and they're mainly focused on mandopop... which im not really interested in. haha.

also good to know that RP has many jamming studios and music equipment. but SP... no scene? i thought there was a jamming cca and studios? from what i heard its $10/hr for jamming.

as for the creation of jamming cca in NP, i also hope to organise some competitons either in NP internally or among the tertiary institutes...

Should make the jamming free, like here. Hooray.

Believe me, I've tried to secure a regular on-campus space here twice already. That woman over at SDAR, Ong Gan Siok Hwa or whatever her name is nuked me both times, even when my friends and I offered to move our own equipment in. Apparently NP is severely overextended on the budget.

haha we're approaching a different woman this time through a lecturer we know. hoping to get it started as an interest group first before we expand but all are welcomed to join...

i don't think SP has a "jamming" CCA. but we do have studios for bookings at one of the blocks. and of course, those who're in Music and Audio Technology (like me) have our own studios to jam/record. how blessed. hahahha.
