im a d.i.y person, so i dunno where i get the schematics from on the internet.

so i basically changed both my neck and bridge pickups, and solder them.

starting starting nv noticed, but now when i on my ds-1 and an overdrive , freaking hum like siao.

here's the picture,

anything wrong?

red = neck
black = bridge.

help! thanks!

sorry for the freaking big picture, but must big then can see ma, right! :D

Wiring is correct.. Most likely dry soldering, touch up on all soldering pts.
Capacitor wired to the ground is ok.. just another wiring method.

Yeah...wiring is correct!! But your soldering is..hmm...not good. Try using a lower wattage soldering iron and probably 0.32" 60/40 rosin core lead. Your tremolo or bridge ground seemed to be loose. Try tackling on that first as it could be dry solder there.

As suggested by Mike, yeah..you may wanna do up the soldering again.

Good luck!!

Looks correct, but your solder joints look like CLUMPS OF GUNK. Start practicing on small metal bits and wires! Get nice CLEAN soldering joints, lots of that black stuff = BAD.

get a multimeter and set it to the buzzer setting to check if your joints are cold. This is a major help. :D

im havin problems with my soldering too..using a 30 watt soldering iron...but i find that i cant seem to melt the solder..it takes a long time to melt the solder..

any recommendation on wad brand and wattage of soldering iron to get?

30watt soldering iron is more than enough. I have been using a cheapo 15watt one to do geetar wiring and some efx circuit. Its good enough

the important thing is to let the soldering iron heat up to hot enough(power up the thing and let it heat up for a while, 15mins to 30mins) and when place on the contact point of soldering, with the lead round there, the solder lead will flow smoothly and when cool down, will have a shiny surface. Dont melt the solder lead on the soldering iron first and touch on the contact, the contact point of soldering is not warm enough for the lead to flow and might result in cold joint.

For the soldering lead, get those that come in a small drum, 60/40 rosin core type, 0.6/1mm diameter type.

Deathism, I am using 30watt soldering iron too. If the soldering iron has problem melting the solder, the heating element might be faulty. It happened to my old soldering iron.

prolly..

i used it 2 times..it was ok..den after that the tip juz wudnt melt the solder lead..

and i cudnt seem to tin the tip at first use..the moment it heated up..it turned black and the solder lead would juz drip from the tip.

if the tip turn black, have a penknife around, scrap on the pointed tip to rid that layer.

Oh, another thing which i sorta learn from rs component brochure.. To clean the soldering iron when in process of soldering, use a steelwool(can be those for washing plates type). Dip the hot soldering iron into the steelwool and twist around. The soldering iron tip be shiny clean. Much much more better than using sponge with water!

bro ..did u check ur jack?skali its not ur guitar thats causing the hum :)
btw how is it now?

well acutally,i was gonna say this as a shot in the dark.

cause my guitar once had this damn irritating humming sound whihc just most likely means the earth so i resolder alot then its still there,turns out some sh it was wrong with the jack.So replaced it and it worked like a charm

hey there! i am an engineering student so i had done soldering almost every day(at the same time decrease my lifespan hehe). apparently ur solder flux and/or soldering iron's tip is dry. What i can recommend is that u use a soldering paste to "wetten" things up..u can buy it at any diy stores for around $2.50. i faced the same problem with you in one of my soldering sessions.

just add to that sentence*incredible*haha.One thing i dont get when soldering the damn fumes have a tendency to always float towards my face haha.
