Strat wiring diagram

Hey guys...i tried rewiring my strat with SSS config two days ago...only the bridge pickup worked..but i followed the wiring schematics as shown
standard_strat.gif
...

but since that didn't work, i went around to look for more schematics..and found this one
3192.gif
...which seems to have quite a bit of difference..

So which diagram should i follow? Considering its the face view of the back of the pickguard

and does it matter which way i place my 5way switch? What could have went wrong? Maybe a spoilt 5 way switch or pot?

Oh and when i solder the grounds onto the pots, i tin the pot with solder first? I am using a 40 W soldering iron, so how many seconds max should my soldering iron touch the pot?

wow.. i remember when i 1st started out.. destroyed a few switches and wires before i got the hang of it...

then i found out i wired my switch in reverse. *facepalm*

best get the one that closest resembles your 5way switch.
otherwise here's a couple of reliable ones that i've personally tried. cant really tell much diference tonally.(or maybe it's just me?)

and when your soldering iron is fully heated, it takes no more than 5 seconds to melt and solder a joint.
and here's an article from the same site on soldering.

hope this helps.
