IS Lighter Fluid safe or....?

I read from the sticky that lighter fluid is used to remove gooey residue from the guitar. Just wanna know if there are other guitar-friendly cleaning aids that can do the same.

I removed a sticker from the back of the headstock and even after repeated 'gentle-scraping' and using scotch tape, the residue is still there.

Any tips? Thanks.

Hmm.

The thing about using lighter fluid is to apply a small amount onto a cloth before using the cloth to rub off the gluey stuff. Don't make the mistake of just simply dousing the surface in lighter fluid!

rubbing alcohol can also, even deodorant/cologne works.

turpentine might be too strong, i don't know

brasso is sand paper in liquid form my friend...

any thing that is oil base and evaporates fast will solve the cleaning problem..you have those glass cleaning solutions? it works too.. if not.. e strongest i'll recomend is those gentle nail polish remover..

i sprayed a little LCD monitor screen cleaner on a 3M cloth and wiped the goo off.
It works! Wanted to get lighter fluid but paying $3.50 for 1-time use is a waste.

there's something that you can try, thinner. i always use thinner to clean off the adhesives. even the swee lee sticker behind the headstock.. you have to of course scrape the sticker off first, apply thinner on it and with a bit of pressure cleaning it off, it will good as new..

Lighter fluid

Lighter fluid is recommended for finish cleaning. please see Dan erlwine's book on guitar repair - he goes into extensive details on fixeg and preserving guitar finishes

note to softies, for obvious reason try no to SMOKE while cleaning your guittr with lighter fluid - unless you trying to recreate the relic Jimi Woodstock model relic look

on your guitar la. Eh Thinner will remove the paint off your guitar also sia! Lol. Use the "Super Oil" that you use to stop squeaking at joints. Let it soak awhile then whipe off with clothe then polish with guitar polish. Works wonders for me =)
