I just found out that my Grandfather was an official during the Olympics wayyyy back. And he has a medal to prove it.

My grand uncle was tortured by the Japanese... had the water torture - hose forced into mouth, pumped full of water then stepped on. He survived of course.

Pretty rad huh?

What's your history like? Cool stuff, miscellaneous stuff, amazing stuff... spill it!

Can... if you don't mind sharing the truth of course.

Remember Pathein, remember your quote in my quote on my signature!

ahhh ok. Thanks bro!

Noppe, theres no such person with such colourful history in my family. I was afraid that the whole thing might developed into "my family one more power, more interesting, bigger better" kinda thread where the less fortunate one might avoid. So iam just quoting few thingy and see if its ok, if anyone wanna talk bout it.

i is "nice"

Cant think of much right now..Instead of juz the family, mine is concerning a family treasure..

It's a guitar, an Ibanez-shaped body customized from scratch..

Passed from:

Popular Guitarist >>> My Uncle >>> My Older Cousin >>> Me >>> My Other cousin

Ok, here's the story..my uncle, when he was young, befriended an artist whom me n my cousin still dunno who..surely was not Ramli Sarip..aha..but was in dat era la..get the picture?..Malay music anyways* After he finished recording his album, he offered my uncle his guitar which used to give him so much great compositions..And he simply told my uncle, "You need to take out juz afew bucks for a pickup i'm gonna recommend u, dat would be all" ..My uncle, yearning to learn guitar, greatly accepted his offer..He bought the pickup for $70 or somewat..and got the guitar..

The funny part was..a few years later..they meet again..unluckily, my uncle was already a policeman, and he(the artist) had a bad record on something, my uncle himself had to cup his hands..aha..My uncle always laugh when he tells us this part of the story..

Anyway, whoever own the guitar or used to own it, got to the stage all bcoz of IT..it feels like a legend guitar when we, the owners, come to think of it..The guitar came from long2 ago,b4 me n my cousin were born, and it was passed down from top till bottom, living up a newb till he's pro n until a stage of at least 1000 audience..

When we're on stage, me n my cousin would be grinning and one of us would ask "how did we get here?"...and vuala..eyes at the price..aha..

Dunno why la..it feels like the guitar has a soul..brings out our music talent..and when my cousin FINALLY decide dat the guitar deserve servicing, the guitar technician told us dat the pink single coil neck pickup worth alot and its list price in the market is kinda high..Lolz..shocked the hell out of us..i mean..look at how many years hav past..never thought the stuff on it still has value..

I got a pic of it..if any of u guys could name at least one specific,i wont mind..coz i really wanna noe man..this guitar is damn wierd(in hell of a good way)..aha..

Heard there's 2 Ibanez pickup and 1 Fender's..HSS..forget bout naming the pickups tho..i noe it wont be easy..=S

Not me..XD

Speaking about the Japanese Occupation, my grandfather was one of those who were 'stamped'. Remember those brutal executions of strong young men? Men that might threaten the Japanese's hold on the island? Those that were stamped were to be brought to the beach and shot.

My grandfather was en route to the beach to be shot, he was on a truck or some sort. The details were hazy, but the main gist was that he somehow managed to leap off the truck and escape to safety.

If he didn't escape, I'd not be here typing this now. (:

i'm related to the 1st emperor of china (same chinese surname). now I am going to build great wall of singapore , combining with modern technology, ERP gantry entry for them mongolians when they attack we will benefit also..

i'm from taiwan. my paternal grandfather was an accountant for the KMT in China before WW2 so when the CCP took hold of China in 1949, the KMT along with China's gold and my grandpa swam across the strait over to Taiwan.

oh yeah and my granduncle on my maternal side was a human rights activist in taiwan and from wat i've heard is going to have a statue of himself up somewhwre in taiwan cool eh? i heard he actually argued with chiang kai shek face to face back in the day. jee-yehhh.

According to my mum, my late grandad used to work in a record company (I think Capitol) and met The Beatles there (signed by Capitol at that time) during the 60s.They actually stopped over in Singapore while on their way to Australia for their tour. My mum told me that they actually posed for a pic wearing songkok! :)

My late grandad was able to get autographs of superstars for my mum (she was a huge fan of those groups back then) who dropped by Singapore like Herman`s Hermits, Dave Clark 5, etc :)

MY maternal grand mother (she died before I was even born) was a member of royalty in Java. History is hazy after that.

my great grandfather was working underground with the british during the japanese occupation. he was sold out, captured and tortured by the japanese...those stupid japs extracted all his teeth and cut off his tongue..then the shorn his testicles clean....jeered hm and fed him to the crocodiles...

i am however proud to say that he took his secrets to his grave...

if i could i would like to meet his torturers and ask why they extracted his teeth and cut his tongue if they wanted to get secret information from him....and why shave his balls? do crocodiles like their food hairless?

because of this, my grandfather gave his son to the de souza family for upbringing....i learnt that my real surname is actually Cordeiro.

my grandfather who've i've never met came from China to Msia. He worked as a coolie like many others and did a variety of oddjobs and small business before ending up as a pork butcher. he's a stud, 1 wive in china and 2 in msia.

one of my stepgrandmother was a "witch", got black magic one leh...

^^ "one of my stepgrandmother was a "witch", got black magic one leh..."
There were tons of that around during their times, wasn't there?? It's so scary.. :\ I mean, you'll never know who you'll end up pissing off and the next day your house would be haunted by toyols or something! good god. I bumped into a tiny thin book of black magic spells during a 'old books' raid in my family, and I had no idea what it was until my mum told me to throw it away.. No one has any idea how it got there :S It was scary! had pictures of the devil and stuff..

Ok uhm.. I've got a lineage of politicians in my family tree mostly..

My great grandfather (dad's side) was a governor in Singapore during the brit colonial years. My great (?) grand uncle/father (I have no idea, to be honest there was so much going on that I got confused) was a politician who was assasinated in Sri Lanka (mom's side). Yeep.

My (local) grandparents were part of a revolution during the jap wars, and my grandfather was one of the prisoners as well. I still have this jap-english language book tied up with rafia string, a book that my grandfather was forced to study in his cell.

My grandmother on my dad's side was a Brit journalist sent to Singapore, and my grandfather was one of the soldiers. I can't remember his ranking tho, but I know that's how they met and had my father :D It was quite romantic, I think.
When my grandma became older, she left and became a nun somewhere in the world. We really have no contact with her, she just disappeared, me and my dad had searched for her for a long time but found no records of her. We're assuming she's deceased.

The musicians came in and expanded during my grandparents generation, mostly because my grandfather. My family had the opportunity to meet many musicians (see faizal_rocks' post; we're cousins).. he mentioned Beatles, as for me, my mum told me she met Cliff Richard :P

The cool thing is that... Singapore is a young nation and so much happened in such a short time. I kinda hoped that there would be plenty of stories and stuff. I wonder how long this thread will last!

Interesting stories here. Hope mine will be as interesting:)

My grandfather and grandmother were from Selangor, Malaysia were like married since young so they weren't very fond of each other. They had to hide in the forests during the Japanese occupation (only learnt about this last night).

So after some time, my grandfather came to Singapore to work for sometime and had an affair. One of my relatives who was here called back and told my grandmother. So my grandma together with my aunties and uncle came to Singapore to find my grandpa. And God knows what happened so yeah since then, they've been staying here. And my grandpa hates that relative that pao tuo-ed him. Lol.

While in Singapore, my grandparents had another 2 children. One girl and one boy (my dad). So one of my grandma's close friends tried pretty hard to get kids but couldn't. So my grandma gave the girl to them. So now that lady doesn't want to have anything to do with my family. She's like 40+ this year?

Oh and one of my cousins from Malaysia married this American dude. And so she stayed with him in America. And she constantly called back to uncle Chew (my grandpa's brother) to talk and she said that she's been very happy etc etc. But one day she wanted to divorce him. And she didn't turn up for work the next day. So after further investigations, it turns out that her husband had murdered her. But the police couldn't find her body. Of coure, he had other accomplices.

Read more about it in a book called September Sacrifice. Can't possibly type everything out here but that's just the rough details.

My grandfather was also a stud,
5 wives, tons of mistresses.
Wish coulda met him, he passed away before I was born.
He could've thought me lots of "life lessons".

My great grandma climbed trees to escape the japs

My grandpa was involved in the chinese students protests

My distant relative committed suicide due to rehab off drugs

I think thats all bah.....
