how you guys deal with people who disrepect the music you play and listen??

well just wondering how u guys face people who give really degrading comments to you like ( that is noise, its not music and then just say that main stream music is like the real music) hrmmmm... welll i know thats why they called it main stream. well my band plays post hardcore and metalcore i know it has lots of screaming so sometimes its quite irritating . i know how it feels like cause the first time isnt always nice. but this has been going on for quite a long time and sometimes i felt like moral down on playing music anymore.

it does really affect me to like listen to the genre that i like. sometimes its difficult for me to listen to my own music at home for practice purposes as i live in the same room as my brother! he is such a nag. keep saying that my music is rubbish and like have my cousins and family members to mock me down with my music.

even if its like paul gilbert music also they will say so metal rubbish. lol.. hrmmm.. so yea hit me with what will ya guys do if u have a brother everyday mocking yur music that u listen to and play .

1) I use headphone/earphone

2) I respect them for their views

3) I dont/wont change their views

4) I am at ease/peace with my own inner angst against others who dont understand

5) I dont dwell in negativity emotions that alienate them and myself

6) I write heartfelt acoustic songs that is angry, not bout heavy distortion nor loud

7) I believe in myself

8 ) I learn to be patient and having greater tolerance towards other whom i dont agree with

9) I embrace them fully, coz whatever that doesnt kill me, shall only make me stronger

10) I gave up geetar and be a laptop musician
 
sorry u kinda have to deal with it.. there will be ppl out there who only know how to criticise. just dont let what others say to u affect what u play.

i love led zeppelin and ppl tell me they're a bunch of crap,

just put up with those comments. unfortunately, we cant do anything abt it. just have to hope ppl start respecting each others music tastes. i dont like r&b but i dont go around telling ppl what they listen to is shit..

and yeah u're right. parents and adults sometimes can be the most irritating. i do have to agree that music they're era was much better. but still they have no right to criticize and tell me not to listen to music right now.
 
ahahaha.. chill la.. ive heard so many comments about people saying metalcore/hardcore/mainstream is not music, its not metal, its noise, its crap, its a sellout, its a disgrace, its not pure...

if can, ill just try to reason with them nicely, cause most of them are really really stubborn.. for me i just keep an open mind, i dont discrimate on other genres cause its really bad.. people put effort into their songs, spent money on recording and working really hard not to get made fun of but let others enjoy listening to their song..

haha.. i want to be laptop musician too!! i think i spent so much more money on guitar stuff than on computer and games.. :)

eh btw if reasoning doesnt work, tie him to a chair, lock him in a room, and blast heavy metal in his face, if he likes heavy metal then blast some redjumpsuit for him..
 
yea thanks for the fast reply .. well my bro is now singing peterpan songs behind me like its K box.. hrmm .. lol.. not saying that peterpan is bad but sometimes i feel quite unfair as he can listen his music and sing it tone deaf while i cant even listen to mine and always tell me to off my music.. well yea should start investing in good headphones.

My family thinks my family is damn noisy. They don't really say much about it and they don't burn all my CDs to prevent me from listening to them. I don't enjoy the music my brother listens to but i don't diss it either. Only that one time he took my Underoath CD and wanted to rip the songs and i said "Are you freaking serious?" and gave him a wtf expression.

Well one time I was in a study group when someone asked me to turn on some music since I brought along my laptop.
So I loaded up Nine Inch Nails' "Just like you imagined" and played it (softly) through the speakers.
Mid-song, one of them rudely interrupted by saying "Wth sia this stupid song sound like some funeral shit"
I turned off the song, looked him straight in the eye and said, "Well, You"
Then i coolly turned the song back on and listened to the product of trent's musical genius.
 
For me the most annoying people are the metal elitists. The ones who will dismiss any metal band that got the least bit of mainstream attention or not heavy enough as "not metal" or sellouts or gay if you mention those bands as ones you listen to.

And then they will list the name of their fav obscure, un-gay and "real metal" bands that you should listen to in order to really consider yourself a metal fan.

Freaking annoying.

Don't be disheartened to comments about things you love best to do. Music irregardless of genres are some form of releasing your emotion, stress, point, etc.

You do not have to listen to what people say what they don't like about your music. Listen to those who love your music.

Who gives a damn about what others think? If you like it, it's something you can call your own. Better to be true to yourself than sellout from pressure.

Rock n' Roll is listening and doing whatever you want, even if you listen to Metallica and some fool insists that Metal is some non-chart obscure band and not anything mainstream. Nothing wrong with non-mainstream Metal bands but no need to be elitist.

Metal is doing whatever you think is right and giving the finger to the naysayers who can't respect you.

We'll still be here when they move to the next trend, I always tell these people that their music is like noise pollution to me, because it irritates me with it's crappiness but I never force them to stop playing it so have the grace to be as understanding.
 
if you must, challenge them to a fight and settle things like a man. Violence is the only way (to make them pay)
