How to properly store a guitar at home

You can store your guitar anywhere as long it's not too hot. Your guitar will wrap. Putting it in the case or bag is a good move, prevents your guitar from being scratched. Putting it on a guitar stand is for quick playing.

can i ask some questions in this thread (althought its abit old, but creating a same thread with same question, i guess pp will hate me for that)

Ok, actually im thinking of getting those thingy that u hang yr guitar neck on it? (The thingy that hold yr guitar neck, like how davis hang their guitars). Im thinking of drilling afew holes beside wall (next to my bed). The problem is that i dont have any aircon (yeah i know im poor), and my average room temperature is 30 (i know this is plain sick, but i enjoy warm temperature), will it affect any of my guitars if i hang it at this room? ( Anyway the wall isnt near the window). String getting dead and rust doesnt really bother me (i love sound of dead strings more than abrand new string). What im more worry about is neck warping (yeah i will be hanging my acoustic, classical, and electric guitar). Im a weird person, i can suddenly get out in the middle of the night and play the guitars, so i guess hanging beside my bed is the best choice.

Anyway, where can u get those stuff to hang your guitars? (good reliable ones, i dont wanna to be awaken by a falling guitar in the middle of my dreams)

u can get them at the workshop on the highest floor of peninsula shopping centre..i got mine there..abt 8 bucks each..its reliable..

Initially, I kept my guitars in the hardcase everynight, until I found it too much of a hassle. And I have to remove the tremolo bar otherwise it would not fit nicely into the darn hardcase. It will still fit, but not nicely.
Anyone with the same experience?

Now, I just hang them up on the wall hangers. Stretches out the neck.
It has been about a month already my DRs are still shining despite constant playing.
I have the airconditioner switched on every night though. And I wipe it down with a cloth and apply Fastfret nightly.

excalty, my ibanez prestige hardcase will press down the tremolo bar when i close it and thus causing it to go out of tune. And im a person with no fix timing of playing the guitar, i used to keep taking in and out the guitar, and if you are using those push in arm tremolo bar, even worse, the washing will wear in no time. but im thinking whether the neck will warp or something

i keep my guitar in soft cases also in upright position and i dunno y...takes up lesser space i suppose?imagine it lying down, won't tt take up so much space?

from what i've read, the reason of keeping a guitar in an upright position is to reduce the gravitational pull on the neck to prevent it from warping. how true this is, i cannot confirm.. but oh well  better safe than sorry.

Hmm.. i just keep my guitar in the hard case and chuck it inside a deep, dark side of the room.... ie.. under my bed.. i got 3 guitars underneath.... dun think it can hold anymore additional members...

I ussually apply Dunlop string cleaner and wipe the guitar throughly with a cotton cloth which i used only for the guitar...

i did thought of hanging it or getting a stand.. but go against it since its too risky when there are younger siblings and pesky maids around.. and i fear that the humidity and constant change of temperature might affect it.. since i use an air-cond when ever i feel hot and sometime just to cool up the room while i m doing my work (*off it once its cool enough and swtich back on when its warm again...)

Plz enlighten me if wat i did might really spoil my guitar if it is really hanging.. coz i really wanna safe the hassle of keeping it in and out ...

I don't gravity will have much effect to the neck when you are simply putting it in an upright position.
I mean, the guitar's supported by the floor so even if there's gravitational pull, it isn't enough to do anything to the neck.

The real deal of gravity comes when you hang the guitar. The headstock is supported by the hanger and the weight of the body pulls the neck straight.

guitar maintaining and placement

hayo, for me i have two guitar and a bass guitar.
for the two guitar it's best to buy the guitar stand
and place the guitar on the stand including the bass.

pls keep ur guitar away from any direct sunlight
or slight heat as it may cause the
wiring inside to heat up sumtime maybe causing
it to corrode, and then affect the sound of the guitar.

it's the same for any type of guitar.

if u wanna keep ur guitar inside any hardcase or
softcase, do not leave it in the case for too long.

u should take it out once in a while,

leaving it in the case for too long will cause
the strings to snap at any time because of immense heat
trapped in the case.

it's also the the same for an aircon room..
it is ok for the guitar if ur aircon is always switched
on as it cools the guitar.

maintain ur guitar properly if ur aircon is
sumtimes switched on and off as the humidity
change, will affect the guitar.

How much does a humidifier cost? Any kind would do right?
And also why don't you just collaspe all your posts into one single post?
